Life Story

August 26, 2014

Entering into this life April 25,1932 to George L. Rhodes and Della Mae Wade.  Elder George Lorenzo Wade was born the third of 10 children in Washington DC, attending public schools in Rockville, Maryland.  At the age of 12 (1944), he was baptized into the Church of God and Saints of Christ by the late Evangelist William Henry Morgan.

His primary and secondary studies were completed through the Montgomery County School System in Maryland.  A graduate of class 1950, that same year, he was drafted by the United States Army where he served faithfully in Korea until his honorable discharge.

On March 15, 1952, Elder Wade was united in Holy Matrimony to Exhorting Daughter, S.E. St. Betty P. Yancey (who preceded him in glory).  With this union he was blessed with 8 children; Esther D., Morris L., Marilyn J., George M., Samuel C., Sandra L., Sheryl Y. (who has also been called to glory) and Betty Renee.

Elder Wade was hard working with the highest of ethics and standards.  He was employed by two major printing companies (Sentinel Newspaper and Comprint) where he served as Foreman and Supervisor until his retirement.  An expert mechanic, he could tell you what was wrong with your vehicle by just listening to the sound of it.  He was often found day and night working on cars, building motors and transmission for cars.

He held many offices in the Church of God and Saints of Christ and worked dilgently and Faithfuly in them all.  In 1954, Elder Wade was ordained to the ministry as a Deacon.  He worked in this capacity under the leadership of God fearing pastors: Evangelist William Morgan, Bishop Abel Dickerson, Elder Marcus Hammonds, Bishop Stanley Harmon and Bishop John E. Bush, Sr.  During the interim of these pastors, Elder Wade took on leadership of Pastoring the Washington, DC Tabernacle.

As time moved on, the building in Washington, DC, began to deteriorate, it was time to make a change.  Because of his love and dedication to the work of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, Elder Wade still holding office of a Deacon) bonded his Family home to obtain and secure a beautiful facility located at 4203 Farragut Street, Hyattsville, Maryland.  On April 25, 1974, the Saints were able to rejoice in utmost thanksgiving and praise.  Under his leadership, the Mortgage was burned in 1993 and the Saints became owners!

In 1979, he was called and ordained to the office of Elder by Chief Executive and Senior Bishop, James R. Grant.  In this capacity, he continued to be the tabernacle plumber, telephone repairman, mechanic, negotiator, legal advisor and janitor.  But more importantly, Elder Wade preached righteousness, teaching the doctrine left on record by God, Christ and His Prophet.

It wasn't always easy; there were many troubled and turbulent storms, but he had great predecessors and their seed remained in him.  Today, we salute ELDER GEORGE WADE and we thank God for his dedicated service to the Church of God and Saints of Christ.  His favorite scriptures: Psalm 90, Psalm 91 and Psalm 103.  His favorite songs: "I Have So Much To Thank God For", I Have Blotted Out", If I Can Help Somebody", "Love Lifted Me" and "Close To Thee".
