It has been 2 years since my mom passed away. Sometimes that seems like a long time, and at other times it seems like yesterday. I miss her every day. I miss her smile and fun-loving nature. And I miss her love.

I am thinking about Ellen, Hal, and Eve today as they remember Eleanor on this anniversary of her death. Such a vibrant woman who has been a great influence in all of your lives. I was privileged to have known her.

I fell in love with Eleanor the moment I met her. People talk about her elegance and dignity and it's so true. Ellen, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your memories bring you joy. I know I will smile when I think of Eleanor.

I met Eleanor years ago when she came into the Quilt Shop where I worked. She was a lovely lady and always well dressed and well spoken. She always told me "put on some lipstick!" She was something special. I'm so sorry for
your loss, Ellen. But I'm sure you have some wonderful memories to keep in
your heart. Love You

Dear Ellen, I never met your mom but can see how remarkable and loved she was. What a long life, surrounded by family. Something I have myself learned is that your mother will always be with you in a very real sense. You have been very fortunate!

Eleanor, with her elegance and dignity, her beautiful hair, and her openness to the world -- what an incredible life you lived. I feel so blessed to have had times with her and Ellen's family at Glennie, to have shared that gorgeous place with her, and to have shared with Jerry also just being part of the Quart family.

Her Life
April 5, 2021
Born Eleanor Minnie Heidrich in Detroit, Michigan,  nearly 100 years ago, she lived a full life.
Eleanor was raised during the Great Depression, making her resourceful and resilient. Wanting to become a brain surgeon, she applied to John’s Hopkins School of Medicine, only to be rejected, in their words, “because you are a woman.”  That directly led to her lifelong commitment to women’s rights, justice, and equity. She sought to guarantee that her children and grandchildren did well in school and went to college.
While working at Lyon, Inc. in Detroit, she met the man who would become her husband.   Her boss, Leonard  A. Quart,  was so taken by this smart, spirited beauty that they were married eight months later.   From their union of nineteen years, George, Ellen, and Larry were born.  Eleanor loved her children, her grandchildren, her family, and friends. Some of her happiest moments were spent “up north” at the family farm in Glennie.  She loved fishing, riding horses, and walking in the woods. An accomplished musician, Eleanor played the piano, violin, accordion, and harmonica, in addition to being a terrific whistler!  With her husband, they shared a love of dogs, horses, fishing, and dancing.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her two sisters, brother and her loving husband,  Leonard.  She is survived by her children George(Susan), Ellen, and Larry(Colette), six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Known for her warm smile, generous heart, and fun spirit, she will be missed.
Eleanor will be laid to rest in the Glennie Cemetery.  A celebration of her life will be held July 18, 2021, at the Glennie Golf Club, from 1-4.. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Mikado Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 55, Mikado MI 48745,  or the charity of your choice.

I have so many memories with Eleanor.
  • Eleanor driving the tractor with the trailer and backing up like a pro.
  • Fishing with her was my highlight.  She got more excited than I, even if I caught the fish.
  • I loved listening to her stories.  She had so many life experiences.
  • I was so glad when she finally bought a lawn tractor and pull behind wagon for leaf pick-up.  Previously she used the wagon on the tractor and tarps!!!  She wasn't afraid of work!
  • Jerri and I got married on Eleanor's birthday.  Yes, on her birthday.  I thought of it as a love to Eleanor.
