Miss Eleanor is one of the peope I name whenever asked who made a great influence on me when I was young. Miss Eleanor was my Sunday School teacher during my teen years (I am not sure how she put up with all the silliness of teenagers) and inspired me to teach children about the love of God and Jesus, even today as I serve as the director of Children's Ministries at a UM church.
Even more importantly, she encouraged me to attend Agnes Scott College, where I spent my undergraduate career. She told me what a special place Agnes Scott was for young women who loved learning and wanted to be challenged. She loved Agnes Scott and wanted other young women to have that experience. I thank her so much for her support and encouragement.
I remember the neighbor who was so kind when my mother died and hemmed dresses for me, especially one with lots of tiny pleats.
I had not seen her in several years but she will always be one of the important people in my formative years in West Point. I thank you, William, Nena and Margaret for sharing her with other young people.
