Momma, Momma, MY MOMMA. It has been 95 days since I held your hand last and I still “get something in my eye” when I think about it. So many things have happened. I don’t know what happened to the time, but it is already Christmas Eve. We all miss you so much. Tonight, I can only imagine you, Co, Richard, Daddy and all the family are rejoicing, preparing for a big day tomorrow, celebrating the birth of Jesus. What a wonderful birthday celebration that should be. Just know, I love you, miss you, and right now “all is calm, all is bright” on this silent night.

:"Grandma Ruth" was a very special lady! She helped to nourish Kesi and Kevin when they joined "Ruth's Academy." This blessing gave Horace and me an opportunity to go to work everyday knowing that they were in great hands. I thank God for having allowed our paths to have crossed. Rest in Peace "Grandma Ruth", we will miss you.

My Grandma Ruth ALWAYS greeted us at her front door. She would hold it open and we would file in individually and each give her a hug. Her enthusiasm to see us never faded. She created a home where we built tents in the living room, ate chocolate pound cake, never had to call before coming over, and friends were always welcome. I loved her laugh, how she would say 'oh wow', and always reminded us to 'use your common sense' and 'watch and pray'. Anytime she gave a card or wrote a check 'God Bless You' would be written somewhere. I once described her as someone who has "spirituality and faith in God, strength in family and friends, personal commitments to service and character, and - of course - an elegant and daring sense of style."

I know God blessed me and our family with my Grandma Ruth. She was a true Proverbs 31 Woman that taught us the most important lessons in life...to love God and family. We would not be who we are without her and while she has transitioned to her eternal home she will live on in our hearts and the way we live our lives.

Grandma Ruth stands out to me as one of the most loving, kind and giving persons I've ever met. Her children are a testament to her faithfulness and her love. I've benefited directly and my life has been enriched a thousand-fold plus. I first met Grandma Ruth I believe on a Sunday after church.  I was a young, lonely and homesick 2nd year med student. Her daughter, Carolyn (Cookie), quickly became a mentor, friend and Mom to me. I still call her my North Carolina Mom. The first day that I met Grandma Ruth she treated me like her granddaughter and I soaked it up. God has used the Archie family to heal family wounds in me and I know by knowing Grandma Ruth I am a better mother today to my children than I would have been otherwise. I learned medicine at the Bowman Gray Campus, but I learned how to care for people and love them at Grandma Ruth's house. There will always be a special place in my heart for Grandma Ruth and her legacy! She loved me like her own and I know one day I will see her again. What a day of rejoicing that will be! All Glory to God..."let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaver"...she lived this! Amen.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Ruth. She was truly an amazing lady. Very kind and loving. I know she will be missed by all of her family and friends. Psalms 90:10 says the span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong. But they are filled with trouble and sorrow' they quickly pass by, and away we fly. Aunt Ruth lived for 94 years. I guess you could say she was especially stronger than most.
I find much comfort from the hope the Bible offers for those we have lost in death. John 5:28, 29 says there will be a resurrection of all those sleep in death and Acts 24:15 says there is going to be a resurrection. By means of Jesus ransom sacrifice we have this wonderful hope. I reflect on these scriptures and they provide a lot of comfort for me and I hope they will do the same for the family.

Your cousin,
Milton Archie

"Grandma Ruth was a talker. She could talk and laugh with you for hours. She loved to have company and especially loved children. Her stories and sayings were one of a kind. She would talk about her childhood, Momma Ella, Momma Lena, her sisters and brothers from "the country", how she met grandaddy, how she got a job at RJR, and how she miraculously was cured from a disease by visualizing herself laying her problems at the feet of Jesus. Her living room was the stage for four generations of children to perform, learn respect, feel unconditional love, and learn about the cycle of life. Grandma and Grandaddy laid a firm foundation for their family and the many branches that grew on this family tree. Her memory will live on for countless generations because of the sacrifices made the the deep love she openly gave to all. Thank you Grandma Ruth.

"Mama Ella" (Ella Burnett Hadley) my Grandmothers Aunt raised her and I remembered she would always say "I am so rich because I have so much family." In this moment I feel the spirit of her words in my heart. When I think of Grandma Ruth there are so many things that come to mind and being rich is one of them. This is not however, your typical rich, not of possessions and materials but yet of the wealth of the true meaning of family. Grandma Ruth brought the riches to our family through the love of God in her.
As a child I saw my Grandma almost daily. We would go to yard sales at the crack of dawn on Saturday. The remainder of Saturday my Grandma prepared for the next day's worship. She made sure the hat matched the purse that matched the shoes.
If you were fortunate enough to have a Grandma who had the endless pots on Sunday, the always plentiful oatmeal cookies, homemade chocolate cake but most importantly she had a wealth of love. The love that inspired and even with her gone, it will never expire. The love that never grew old and tired but kept giving..and giving.. and giving through the family...multiple generations of riches in family love. Love your "Miss Dee"

Sunday Mornings..........

September 24, 2017

Having such fond memories of "My Ruthie"!!  Especially those Sundays after church, someone would take her to church, after service she would walk down to see Mom & I, on Jackson Ave.  We would sit in the swing on front porch, or go inside and have our chats!!  She was always dressed very nice, and I have pictures!!

Mom, (Carrie Mae) as Ruth would call her, were so funny together.  She always was there for us through it all!!  She would always call me after Mom passed..she  would say.. "How is my girl doing"..how I have missed those calls.

" My Ruthie", touched so many lives in  her journey on earth!!! I am so grateful to my father for her..................

Aunt Ruth Hair Salon Experience

I remember this day vividly, Aunt Ruth pranced in and told us she was ready to get dolled up. She came and stayed the entire time by herself. She smiled and laughed the entire time and loved on us as she does all the time. From the One Step Up Family, and the owners Avis, and Marrion Sewell our deepest sympathies go out to my extended family. We know that our precious Aunt got her crown and her wings. With love
