Elmer D. Slemp, 82, a longtime resident of Granville County, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his home.

A native of Lee County Va., the son of the late Will and Eula Rhoten Slemp. He was retired from SCM Metal and loved to fish and tend to his garden.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 4th 2015 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by Rev. Brock Meyers.  Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Virginia Bays Slemp of the home, three daughters, Debbie S. Link (Jim) of Hammond, Indiana, Sheila S. Tate(Mark) of Wake Forest, Janice S. Brown(Scott) of Crown Point, Indiana, sisters, Velma Russell, Joyce McKinney, Brenda Maxwell, a brother, Paul Slemp, son-in-law, Kenneth Paquin of Wake Forest, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Paquin.

Flowers are accepted.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to the funeral at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.

I worked with Elmer at SCM in Durham for many years and have thought of him many times over the years since his retirement. To this day we still use an expression of his when it's time to eat lunch. "In the meantime, it's bean time" RIP my friend.

Ginny,I'm so sorry to hear about Elmer. He had that Rhoten sense of humor. He liked to cut up,and he was so funny! It will be hard for you,and I know that time will help. You will be in our hearts and prayers! Give my condolences to the rest of your family. Love you
