Our Mother's Obituary

January 16, 2014

Mrs. Elvira C. Adams, age 68, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her entire family on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 after a very prolonged illness.  She was born to the late Angel Chavez and Maria Teresa de Jesus Ramirez on April 30, 1945, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Mrs. Adams attended elementary school in Mesquite, New Mexico, and spent time living in Las Cruces and Alamogordo, New Mexico before settling in El Paso, Texas more than 40 years ago.  She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.

In 1967, Elvira married the love of her life Scotty Ray Adams, and together, they had three children, Terri Reed (husband, Tomey) of El Paso, Texas; Scott Adams (wife, Priscilla), of El Paso, Texas; and Peggy Gonzalez (husband, Julian) of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She was the proud grandmother of Berlynn Adams, Jordan Scott Barajas, Jocelyn Adams, Jessica Gonzalez, Julian Chris Gonzalez, Scotty Ray Gonzalez, and Tomey D. Reed.  She was also the adoring great-grandmother to Ethan Scott Adams.

Her children and grandchildren were her pride and her passion.

Elvira is also survived by her brothers, Nemecio (Herminda) Chavez of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Alfredo Chavez (Isabel) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Ruben (Raquel) Chavez, of El Paso, Texas.  She is also survived by her niece Julie, and nephews Paul, Richard, Joseph, Nemecio, and Ruben Chavez, and her God-daughter Felicia Gallegos (husband, Martin).

Mrs. Adams funeral mass was held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the San Jose Catholic Church in La Mesa, New Mexico – the same church that she was married in, in 1967.  A private graveside service for immediate family members and friends was held at the San Jose Cemetery also in La Mesa, New Mexico, where her husband, parents and beloved grandparents were previously laid to rest.

Our family wishes to thank the Vista Hills Nursing Center, which was Elvira’s temporary home after a tragic accident in 2009.  We also wish to thank the Davita Dialysis Center; Cardiology Care Consultants; and El Paso Kidney Specialists for their continued care over the years. Lastly, the family extends their thanks to the ICU staff of Del Sol Medical Center, especially to her nurse Jared, whose quiet compassion and caring was an immeasurable source of comfort to her family in her final hours.

Mrs. Adams arrangements were handled by La Paz-Perches Funeral Home in El Paso.
