What is this! How ... Oh dear God! I tried to reach him severally and I just stumbled on this sad news. Emma Ugoji was a kind and intelligent man. He was especially proud of his daughter's entrepreneurial spirit.. he encouraged a young lost journalist like myself and tried to help me establish in the profession. What a terrible loss to humanity. I pray God helps his family to pull through this horrible lose! I'm shocked and sad and in pain... His memory will live on forever!

Ekwueme! Ezinwanne,
The news of your sudden death hit me like thunderbolt. I immediately called my husband believing that it was fake news and needing him to confirm that it was indeed. Alas, he confirmed my worst fear and had deliberately withheld the information from me. It still feels like a nightmare from which one will wake up. I remember the UNN days where we studied for our Masters degree programme in Political Science, with Nkrumah Hall as our abode. You were a great friend and brother. And when we reconnected in Abuja through my husband, our two families bonded. You had a great sense of humor, always filling the environment with laughter with your witty remarks. You'll be sorely missed Ekwueme. Oh to think that I'll never again hear that whistle call whenever you visit us at home. Rest in peace good brother, great husband and father. It is and will continue to be well with Ngo and the children.

Oh Oga Emma,

Like the twinkling shiny star
You brightened everyone you met
Like an anchor in the mighty ocean
You gave hope to the most deprived
Like the good Samaritan
You rescued the helpless
And when you got to the finish line
You evaporated into tin air.

Like the ageless Pathfinder
You urged me on when I shared my
decision to chart a new path
And now you've left halfway.

Rest on in God's unfailing Arms Sir.
Till He comes for us who believe in Him.
Adieu Deh Emma.

Ehh!! Oga Emma, I am still trying to wrap my head around this uneasy and unusual new normal of the permanent absence of your physical presence from the family. I am shocked, devastated and speechless but knowing that you would like us to carry on from where you have stopped, we receive grace to soldier on in a bid to fulfilling some of your visions and upholding your enviable legacy. You were a good man and in-law, a loving husband and Father, a caring brother and friend. It is still very difficult to say bye but after almost a week since this sad tale was told, I now know that it is time to accept this sad reality. You will be sorely missed. Good night Oga Emma and rest on.

I read, with sadness, the news of the sudden death of my dear friend and colleague, Emma Ugoji on March 29, 2021. I have known him for 20 years, beginning from October 2002 when I was deployed as Protocol Officer to serve in the Office of the then Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the State House Abuja. Our friendship took off almost instantaneously as we traverse the length and breadth of Nigeria, and indeed the world, as members of the Vice President’s Advanced Party.

Our friendship grew as our mutual service commitments shaped and bonded us together. We came to appreciate, respect and honor each other through it all. We were looking forward to giving everything we have to our country and to each other.

Emma may have completed his mission and fully delivered on his desire to give everything he had to the country he loves. But the task of making it the country he dreamed of is still to be realized. It behoves on us, his comrades-at-arms, to carry on from where he left so we can give appropriate honour to his memory.

There is no doubt that we have lost a rare gem whose vacuum will remain gaping for a very long time to come. May the soul of Emmanuel Ugoji Rest In Peace with his Lord. We pray that Almighty God will forgive his shortcomings and grant his family, and all of us, his dear friends, the fortitude and courage to bear the loss.

Death is inevitable, when the giver, taker and owner of life calls for it, we practically can not do anything. Today, my dear friend, brother and Oga Emma Ugoji has bowed to that call, we can only ask the owner of life to give him eternal rest, to console the beautiful family he left behind and for us that are still alive to support his family. I will miss a jolly good friend, I will mis an embodiment of wisdom, strong character, humane and caring friend. Emma makes one appreciate his wife and family , a complete family man , a gentle man lover of humanity. I still ask why he had to leave us so soon, but no answers. Rest easy, rest on and sit on the right side of your Lord.
Adieu!!!

Oga Emma. It’s add to believe I will see you no more. You were such a great and enigmatic character. You found it easy to create peace where is a tension. You were frank with the truth and your judgement in all situations is sound and upright. Socially, you are a characterization of a cool guy: easy going and full of wit and style. As a man of tradition, you are an all-rounder Igbo man. You always come to mind any time I see Igbo men discussing their rich culture and tradition. The memories you left behind in our hearts we shall keep till our time is up too. You are dearly loved and even more missed. I pray to the Almighty to grant you eternal rest and heal the wonderful family that you left behind. Honestly, it’s tough to bid you good night.
