Every journey is a story
Related as Life in Glory
In this world where men but tarry
Craving to meet with Divine tally.
Drive on, Grand Frere, to Glory Land -
Zion, the place for you to stand
In the midst of all with a hand
Free to lend to all those who stand
Asking for aid to understand
Such things this world cannot explain
Even as we strive hard to to train
Reason and betray not the brain
Given for man to seek to gain
Essence of life to start again

And so the mortal journey that started with a smile would end in tears?
We lost a brother, a gem.
The cold and ugly hands of death has snatched another star from our midst. Tonton Eric was a star, a brother, a protector, caring for everyone, anyone. He had such strong sense of justice and empathy. Eric dignified everyone and loved to see family members and friends succeed; he believed in working hard ; he believed in success; he was goal oriented and kind-hearted. He was a father to all the children around him. I remember those mornings when he would make Henriette’s (his niece) hair, ensuring that she looks good going to school. He would take time out of his busy schedule to come downstairs to chat with us, wanting to know how our school day went, offer advice and even offer to make lunch the next day provided we do our chores before leaving for school. He maintained an atmosphere of authority around the house, an authority we were all comfortable with. We miss Eric dearly.
Tonton Eric is in a very deep sleep right now. But we look forward to the resurrection. It was the faithful man Job who asked this question in Job 14: 14, 15 that “ If a man dies, can he live again?” And through inspiration he gave the answer: “I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. You (God) will call and I will answer. You will long for the work of your hands.” The work of God’s hands includes fixing to perfection all the defects brought upon humans by Adamic sin. He already bought and reconciled us to himself by means of the ransom paid by the perfect blood of Jesus Christ. Very soon, we will welcome our dead loved ones back to life in a peaceful new world free from sickness, sorrow and pain under the rulership of Jesus Christ. We look forward to this great promise of our lord Jesus in John 5: 28, 29, the resurrection.
So as we mourn Tonton Eric, dearly missed, we have hope towards God that there will be a resurrection ( Acts 24:15). May all of us remain strengthened by this hope at this very difficult time.
