His Life

Hobbies

March 20, 2016

Eric had a number of hobbies and would get very involved during  the time they were his favorite.  They included windsurfing (Columbia river), fishing (Alaska, California, Boundary waters), music and electronics, cars and engines, making jewelry, making wine, flying, and of course wood working.  He had an encyclopedic knowledge of many subjects.

adventures out and about

March 20, 2016

Eric had many adventures and lived in a number of places around the country.  He worked at a munitions plant during the Vietnam war, a muffler shop in the Florida Keys and commercial fished with his brother Jay in Kodiak Alaska.  He lived in the Santa Barbara California area for a spell, part of that time was spent living on a sailboat.   He was also a long time resident of Fairfield Iowa where he attended MIU and ran his wood shop.

Passing

March 20, 2016

Eric passed away peacefully at the University of Iowa hospital due to Pneumonia related respiratory failure. Myself and Brian and Theresa Sheehan were present.
He will be missed and remembered by many. His memorial service in Fairfield was well attended and many wonderful anecdotes were shared. There will also be a service in Madison Wisconsin in late September or early October. His ashes will be placed with his parents Fred and Patricia and his sister Elise at the Forest Hill cemetery in Madison.
