Fixing Plates
At the family gatherings, Erica would fix Eric’s plate; same as I would often do for my husband. So Erica and I were talking about how we knew WHAT and about How much our husbands would eat; and there were no complaints. So one day we were at a Fish Fry/Spaghetti dinner at my brother’s house and as we started fixing plates I notice that Erica was not trying to get a hot fried fish for Eric. So I said to her, “Erica, girl you better get one of these fish for Eric before they are gone.” She looked at me and said, “Aunt Sheila, Eric doesn’t eat fish.” Huh, well this was news to me!
Curio Stand
One day I was visiting Erskine and Yvonne. I was sitting in their living room and as I was looking around the room, I saw a beautiful curio stand filled with a collection of glass elephants. Well, Ethan (age 5) and Evan (age 2 or 3) were playing in the hallway near the living room; so I said to Yvonne, “Aren’t you worried that they might break some of the elephants?” Yvonne replied “Honey, I am not worried about that because they won’t touch them!” Just then Erskine walked by and said “THEY SURE WON’T!!!”
Alabama
One Saturday afternoon I work up to a college football game playing on TV and I could not stop watching it. The game was so exciting and the team was scoring almost back-to-back touchdowns. I found that the team was Alabama (Crimson Tide). Erica mentioned to me that Alabama was one of Eric’s favorite teams. Eric was often quiet when we all got together; so then I knew just what to say to get him talking. I would say “Hi Eric” and he would say “Hi Aunt Sheila” and afterward all I had to say was “How about Alabama?” and the conversation was “ON”
