Dear Erla,
You have been and always will be a child for me, not only because you were years my junior, but because you have always been young at heart and in spirit. Thank you for crossing paths with me -- glad we lived under the same roof in UPLB (in the "Kagaw" house) during my graduate school days. Hello Kitty and all that girly stuff -- can't forget your love for those -- and your giggly laughter, but most of all your very kind and amiable ways. You always played it cool. I didn't see you study much, yet you did well in your grades. How did you do it?! You taught me different ways of playing rummy and I often looked forward to those card games back at our Gonzales home in LB. You were such a stat wizard! And who couldn't forget our Treasure Hunt days, which was full of excitement, with Vivian your help, who kept all entries!
You amazed me at how you retained that child-like spirit when I met you in later years in Georgia, USA, and at how you got along well with your new friends there, especially our common Filipino friends - Candy and Jotics -- who I met at your place in the university there. You never changed and am sure your friends miss you for that. So glad we met back in Manila -- though sadly, that was to be the last time I would see you, with Tim and a few Kagaw friends.
Rest well, Erla, and into the light and love of our Loving Creator. Watch over us, dear angel! Will forever miss you -- Faina

Tita Erla,
Visiting with you was the highlight of many summers. Lots of fun memories going to Adventureland, seeing magic shows, and putting on performances for you. Thank you for taking care of us and supporting us through the years. I knew that I could always rely on your support for school fundraisers, and you gave me the greatest gifts (including ones that my Mom tells me are too expensive). May you rest in peace.
Much love,
Emilia

Tita Erla,
You were such a blessing to our family. I will be eternally grateful for your generosity and kindness. I was always so excited when you would visit us or when we went to visit you. I would always draw something or make a craft for you that you accepted with open arms.
I will never forget our trip to New York. Seeing the musicals, exploring the city, and being able to get the bass I play now, are experiences I will never forget. Whenever I play my bass I will think of you. I would not be where I am today without you. Thank you for everything.
I love you Tita Erla

Dearest Ate Erla,
I was very happy when you welcomed me as part of the family. You never got tired showing us around whenever I was there together with my family. You are such a blessing to us. You will be dearly missed. May you rest in peace.

Ate Erla,
I feel honored that we were able to celebrate your 50th birthday with us here in Maryland. Though that was the last time I saw you, I added that to our happy memories together. Ever since I can remember, you have been a sweet and generous cousin to me and my siblings. You would always shower us with generous gifts since we were little. My favorites were Hello Kitty, My Melody, and all sorts of sanrio products. You inspired me to like Math when you tutored me with my homework when I was in third grade. When I arrived in the U.S. , you continued to shower our family with not only physical gifts but the gift of your time. Thank you for being there to celebrate with me on the special occasions of my life like my wedding and my kids’ baptisms. And of course, the Christmases we celebrated together will always be cherished. Although our family grieve of your sudden passing, we find comfort in knowing that you are in a better place now with our loving Creator.

Ate Erla,
I will forever miss your laughter, your generous gentle spirit, your ever patience in listening to me that you make me feel 100% important. You have so much going in your life, you can still do many positive things in this world. But you left us so early. We may not have said our goodbyes but I know you are well taken cared of in heaven.

Any teacher will always remember a student who loves to learn new things and willing to go an extra mile to help her classmates learn as well. She does this always with a smile. Even if she excels in a lot of things she would prefer to keep a low profile. Humble, loving. simple , generous, sweet and so passionate about life and numbers, that is Erla, another angel in heaven.

Erla you are one of the nicest person I met back in 2015. You really take some time to tour us around Iowa. I am grateful that I met you and became friends. I am sad to hear you pass but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

You will be missed Erla... you were very nice to us and you made our visit fun. Despite your busy schedule you always find time for your Filipino friends.. Thank you! May you rest in peace...

Ate Erla,
I will always cherish our bonding moments together. Most Kind and Generous, You always put our interests first before yours. When I first visited you in US, instead of asking me to accompany you to the things you love most - Theatres, Museums, and Galleries, you indulged me on mine - ESPN / MSG in New York, Casinos in Atlantic City, and many many more.....
You were very close to my kids and they always look up to you as their model figure. Successful in career, Full of Joy, Love and Contentment, and Always Driven to Excel are qualities they want to emulate. These will remain in our memories forever.
Last thing I can do for you will be to take you back to our hometown where you can have your final rest beside our loved ones who had gone ahead. I’m sure they and our Lord will welcome you with open arms. You have been like an Angel for us here in this world and You will remain an Angel in heaven...

We first communicated through Facebook when she found out that Sheryl and I were dating. She didn’t hesitate to welcome me into the family. She was an avid Facebooker and when we met in person it was as if we were already old friends.

To Tita Erla,
You will always be a kind-hearted and loving aunt. Thank you for all the love and blessings you have given to my family. I’ll forever cherish our bonding moments whenever my family goes to the US. You left us all too soon, but you’ll be forever in our hearts and memories. We love you. May you rest in peace.

I will miss you my friend....you were my NYC Broadway Buddy. You made shows so much more interesting. I loved hearing your stories about commenting in Blogs....you were not afraid to state your opinion on shows that we felt were overrated! You encouraged me to listen to the CD of the music before I saw the show (random cd's in the mail when i was hesitant). While we agreed on 99% of the shows we saw...our mutual love for Les Miserable was spot on. Whenever I go back to NYC I know your spirit will be there with me. I will always ask myself "Would Erla Like this show?" My heart is sad but our loss is Heaven's gain. Thank you for our Friendship!

We first met in P.E. 1 in college and I remember our teacher called you by your second name, Melba. More adventures followed as we joined UPLB Kagaw(asan). Among the unforgetable ones were when we watched the concerts of Gary and Martin with Zinnia, the Kagaw gatherings at our house in Gonzales Compound, the all-girls walk to the Grove at 2 am just to buy coke, we were classmates again in P.E. for tennis (where we were occupied with picking balls than hitting them), (with Zinnia) we were crazy over Wham /George Michael, Hall and Oats and Boy George, we were neighbors again in Grove after we Kagaw girls moved out from the Gonzales house, and a lot more.
The adventures continued when we came back to Cebu and were already working. I remember we had a sleepover in your house in Mandaue sometime 1990 and slept at the wee hours since we did a lot of catching up.
There's more memories with you, Erl, to relay and I could go on and fill up more space here. But still for me the best memory of you is your distinctive laughter! I could almost hear it now! Your laughter wasn't scanty, it was easily and freely given. It has something in it that would remind people to take things easy, lightly. Like how I remember you, Erl, easy to get along with and you took things lighty.
Bye for now dear friend.

We never got to meet in person but still you friended me on FaceBook because I was your little sister Fritzi’s friend. I only got to know you from following your FB posts, and judging from the content you shared, I am sure we would have gotten along well.
Rest in peace now, dear Erla, in the house of our Lord.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die...”   - John 11:25

Dearest Ate Erl,
Thank you so much for being my sister. You have always been there for me and my family. I still can't believe that you left us so early. But I know that you will still remain as our guardian angel. I miss you so much. I will always remember your kindness, generosity and love. I miss our talks about anything and everything. What I regret the most is not seeing and being with you lately. I was hoping to see you again soon but I did not expect it will be your ashes. I love you so much Ate Erl. I pray for your eternal rest and happiness in the hands of our Lord.

When we were in third year or fourth year, i always ask you to explain lessons that i dont understand being you were one of the intelligent classmates. You were always ready to help me even if you were in a rush or busy, you always had time for me and I appreciated it very much. In fact, when i tutor my daughter in science or math these recent years , there were moments when i remembered you. I still have flashbacks of your teaching me. Your seat was at the right side, 2nd or 3rd row from the front. You were near gigi, eileen, mona?
Unlike some of our classmates that you communicate every now and then, high school days was the last of our time together. . . Though i see post or messages from the batch, happy memories is all that i have of you and will always be with me forever. My regret is i never sent you a message to say hi. There was a time when i saw your picture in facebook? Or some posts? I will miss you but i still see you in my mind in your high school uniform, and thick glasses. I intend to keep it that way ....for me you are still around just like the previous years before you joined the Lord.

To my dearest Erla, how do I say goodbye.
There was no time, you left too soon my friend.
We had plans to meet in New York and someday travel to London.
Watching more musicals, visiting more places, that was our dream.
I wish we had more time but it was not meant to be.
You’ve been such an inspiration and I will miss you so.
I will keep our memories, warm and close to my heart.
You may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
