I told my entire family that I did not want any visitors after I brought Nancy home because I wanted to bond with her...well them two were not having it..he rode his gator over to my house and walked in and said " Let me see that baby girl"...lol...and their bond became stronger everyday....My grandmother used to say with tears in her eyes that is was like watching my mother, Nancy, grow up all over again.
Memories from Gracie
Once when we had to go out of town, Dad and Mom kept Gracie our little Chihuaha mix puppy for us. They were always happy to keep thier furry grandpuppies and loved them as much as we do. Gracie was just a little puppy at the time. Ernie took her out to do her business and she bolted and headed down the street for our house that is a block away. She ran down the road crossing busy streets with PawPaw in hot pursuit. At one point she left the road way and ran into a thick briar patch and got stuck. He had to climb into that thick patch to rescue her. I can only imagine the words he must have had to say in his gruff Pawpaw voice. He brought her straight home and bathed her in the sink, most likely giving her a stern talking to the whole time. It took her a long time to forgive him. But he made it up to her by sneaking her little treats and putting lots of gravy on her food. She came to love Pawpaw almost as much as she loved Grandma.
