Memories of Ernie D. Wiggins by his wife Corrine (Barry) Wiggins:

Ernie was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on the 21st of Apr 1948 to Earnest T. and Ida Mae (Bigham) Wiggins.
He was the only child of these parents.
They lived in Wichita Falls for a time then moved to Oklahoma where his father tried farming for a time. This did not work out to well and so they moved back to Texas. The family finely found themselves in Monahans, Ward, Texas, this is where Ernie lived and went to school. In high school he played football, played in the band, also out of school he worked in the oilfield and also did yard work. His father believed in hard work and if he wanted money then Ernie should work for it, this made him who he was. At the age13teen he was a big boy and also worked on a road crew. He had worked from the time he was a teen until in his 60's when he could no longer work. Later in life he went back and got a college education, came out with high honors from college.

After his high school, he went into the Army and served from 1967 to 1971 in Vietnam and in England. He worked on the big guns while in the service in Vietnam. He was in places that the government later said that they were not in and he had a lot of stories from his time over there.

While in the service he married Sharon Moore his high school girlfriend, they had one child named Michelle. This marriage did not work out as he had too many problems from the war and after five years they decide to divorce.
On a rebound he married Clara Bradford, that marriage lasted for about two years she gave up on the marriage and moved out on him, so he moved on with his life and moved to Hobbs, New Mexico.
He went back to the oil filed and worked there for a time but soon he got a job for WatsonTruck and Supply company working on a big rig, putting them together for sale. He now was living in Hobbs, New Mexico with a friend. He rented his own place and that is where our lives began.
In 1977 I meet him and fell in love with him.
I was working at a convincing story the first time when I first saw him it was like a book was opened for me and I knew that right then he was the one that I was going to be with for the rest of my life.
At the time I was still married to my first husband and the only time we saw one another was when he would come into the store that I worked at, but one evening I took a little time to go see him at a skating rink that he worked at on the side. I remember they were playing a song called"Run A Round Sue", and for a big man he was light on his feet. He seems to be able to just glide around the rink. Now every time I hear that song think of him and of that night. There was not too much that he could not do from fixing a truck, car, big rigs to riding horses. Seems that the only thing he was not good at was fishing, he could never catch one so he really did no t like it. He was always game for something new and the world tries it once, we rode horses, blew, took trips on roads that were for the four-wheel-drive only that was fun.
In the summer of 1978 my first husband left me with divorce papers, moved out with the children and left me alone, that is when Ernie told me that I was not going to stay in the house that I was in by myself, so he moved me into he place and that is when we began ours lives together.
We saw each other for about a year before we even began to think of being together. At this time I was still married to my first husband and Ernie had not been able to get his divorce from Clara. So we both had to wait until all was done.
In 1978 we married and moved after a while to a place just outside of the town of Hobbs where we lived for about two years, then we moved to Texas where we lived for the next 8 years until my mother passed and we moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, this is where he lived out the rest of his life.
On our trip to Oregon, we took a little side trip to see some of the lands that we had not seen and it was very interesting to say the less. We drove from Grandbury, Texas to New Mexico to Colorado, from there to Utah and into Nevada then into Oregon. We were three days on the road and we had just crossed a Nevada to a place called Nile, Nevada that was out in the middle of nowhere with only a store and gas station. I stepped out of the car and could smell pine country. When Ernie came back from the store I told him to take a smell of the air and he did, then said so! I told him it was pine country and he knew right then and there we had been on the road to long as all he could see was scrub brush and sand, no pines anywhere around. He just knew I had lost it, but a few miles later we were in the pine country and I told him to see I knew I was right, he never doubts me again.
I remember the first time he ever saw a big pine tree, the loo k on his face was priceless like a little kid seeing one for the first time. you see where he grew up at there were no BIG trees only scrub oak and sand. I told him we would go down to the Redwoods one day and he could see them, and we did he could not believe there were that many big trees. He could not get over how green it was here in Klamath Falls, beings it was called a high desert, where he came from it was all sand and hot, he said he never know there could be a desert that had so much water.
Here in Oregon, he worked for a family as a mechanic and front office personnel until he was unable to work on the heavy equipment any more.
The next thing he went into was College for 6 years and earned a degree in Comput Science. After college, he went to work for a company for about two years, before his health became too much for him to continue to under the stress of the work so he retired and got his VA and SS benefits.
In 2007 we moved from in town to the country just outside of Klamath Falls where we have lived for the last 19 years. This was the best move we had ever made and our life was so much better. he found that he was able to work as he wanted to for a long time in the woods and seems to be doing better, he enjoyed being outside along with loving his grandkids and great-grandkids. He seemed to have finely found the peace and quiet that he was so wanting to have in his life with this move.
One day he was sitting outside and a little hummingbird came by and was only a few inches from his face, he was so happy to see it he told me about it later at lunch.
He was a very loving person and he was always willing to help out. Had a big heart. Our life together was rough at times but we loved one another that saw us through the rough times. We were our best friends, lovers and life partners
