His Life
May 29, 2012

Essex Lee Wimbush was born September 22, 1934 to Mr. Silas Wimbush, Sr. and Mrs. Ceola Nixon Wimbush.

He was the eldest of ten children, four brothers and five sisters.  One brother, Eddie B. passed away in two thousand five.

He joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age and attended regularly until he moved away.

He received his education in the Meriwether County Public School System.  He lived in Meriwether County the first twenty years of his life, doing something he loved all the days of his life, farming . . . Although he left the country in 1955, he moved to the city, got a job as a dough mixer at Dutch Oven Bakery and worked there until it shut down.  He worked from Bakery to Bakery for many years.  His last job was landscaping.  He loved working with shrubbery, cutting grass and working with flowers.  But, he always talked about the good life for him was farming.

Rev. Wimbush was called to preach in 1967.  He was Pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church, 855 Drummond Street, Atlanta, Ga. for many years.

He never had any children of his own, but, he loved children. He gave all the children nick names.  He always felt being the oldest, it was upon him to make sure we were okay.

His favorite songs were:  “Mother Love Her Children” and “Old Ship of Zion.”

He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, three brothers, George (Mozell) Wimbush, Silas Wimbush of Senoia, Ga, Paul Wimbush of College Park, Ga.; five sisters, Daisy Harris of Senoia, Ga., Carrie Wimbush of Greenville, Ga., Catherleen Mays, Bertha (John) Amey and Julia Wimbush of Senoia, Ga.; two special nephews, Reginald Favors and Dominique Favors; one aunt, Katie Sue Wimbush; many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great great nephews, great great nieces, cousins and friends.
