Dad,
I miss you an all the talks we use to have. The laughs an working on cars. You were my hero and still are my hero. As the days keeping going on with me I think I understand some of the pain you went through. It really is hard not to be crabby at people butsometimes it’s really hard.  Thank you for everything you did for me.  Love and miss you

Eugene L. “Gene” Johnson, 85, Norfolk, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Norfolk Veterans Home. According to his wishes, his body has been donated to the Nebraska Anatomical Board.

Gene was born March 10, 1927, to Charles and Violet (Marshall) Johnson. He grew up in Newman Grove before moving to Norfolk. He served in the Navy from 1945 until 1946 aboard the USS Shenandoah.

Gene married Joyce Evon Blair Laible on Oct. 22, 1950. While living in Norfolk, he worked at Sidles Co., Mr. Automotive and J&M Auto. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include his sons, Ted (and Lynn) Laible and Charles Johnson, and daughters Patti (and John) Mahoney, Joni (and Marvin) Gaunt, and Genie (and Jim) Gross; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ella May Klug, Dorothy Behmer and Vera Krueger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2007, three brothers, Wesley, Raymond and Edward Johnson, and three sisters, Margaret Allen, Mary Hundt and Laverne Brockman.
