Remember Me

Remember me when flowers bloom
Early in the spring
Remember me on sunny days
In the fun that summer brings

Remember me in the fall
As you walk through the leaves of gold
And in the wintertime - remember me
in the stories that are told

But most of all remember
Each day - right from the start
I will be forever near
For i live within your hearts

My heart aches at the thought of saying goodbye to such a special person. Eugenia loved unconditionally. Sweetie as you called me and I know most of those you loved, may you forever rest with the Angels. You supported me many times in my campaigns and always took it like it was yours and delivered. May your Children experience abundant love from all they come across because you loved. Rest in Peace dear friend and colleague.

I knew Eugenia in the early 90's when she was manning the UN gift shop. They had some quality tees that I loved buying for my kids, among other items , and she would help me make best choices. Even when I had no purchases to make I had a force that would pull me to pass by the gift shop over lunch hour ...Eugenia. I would leave the shop refreshed. Eugenia was a very special woman. . ..very pleasant, outgoing, caring and easily made friends. My hearty condolences to her entire family. May God rest her soul in perfect peace.

A tribute to my senior Lady Eugenia. I interacted with Eugenia closely since 2016 at the Union Office when she cleared and signed our benevolent loans. She followed Financial Rules to the point and observing timely disbursements. I joined her in the Union after a whole. She was a hard working, straightforward, firm, courageous, confident, alert, loving and with contagious laughter.
I will miss senior Eugenia – quiet advises whenever requested for and she also used strong word like stop finishing with Swahili word wacha! wacha! as a sign of warning.

6th March 2020, a surprise birthday song moved towards her dinner table, drumming the Kenyan way with dancers with a white Forest Cake written “happy birthday Eugenia” to celebrate a life well lived.  Little did I know that was her last dance with her Council colleagues.

Eugenia, far away you are gone yet too close to our hearts.  May the road rise up to meet you, may the rains fall softly upon your field and may God hold you in the palm of His hands.

For De Guzman family, you were blessed with a hard working and loving Mama cherish the life she gave and every moment you shared together.

You lived, loved and raised your family and the people around you as if your sole purpose on earth was to give.

Thank you for letting the light of life express itself through you. You gave all the love you had inside your heart, may your eternal light transition with the lightness of a feather.

The gesture you left in people’s hearts will be mimicked to keep you alive. You literally made and continue to make the world a better place...

Fly with the angels Eugenia.

I first met Eugenia as I was trying to have my commissary access set up. As everyone has written, she was ever-smiling and always ready to help.

We had the same morning routine - we would meet on the breakfast queue or at the kiosk. Come evening, I knew traffic was bad if I found her waiting for her husband Gil. He was always so punctual.

My last chat with her was in October, 2019. She had been admiring my brand new leather bag which I had just got after I got mugged. She too had one from the same company; she had also been mugged in Westlands many years back. From this chat, I learnt just how much she cherished her family.

I pray that her family has the the strength and grace to make the rest of their journey without this much loved family matriarch. To Christine, you made such an amazing team @ COU...you will be ok.

RIP Eugenia.

I can remember, meeting Eugenia for the first time at the Gift shop - it was right opposite KCB. She was very engaging , very friendly and larger than life. Sometimes I'd just pass by to say hallo. She loved everyone. May she rest in eternal peace.

It breaks my heart to write my tribute to you Eugenia. When I heard your passing on, I quickly recalled few days earlier when I told you I will call you soon. That did not happen. It won't happen. It is such a sad feeling. As a prospective intern at the UN, you were the first person to usher me to the interviews, it was your space that I sat in the very first day as a new intern. You were such a beautiful human being and I will personally dearly miss you. Rest in Peace Eugenia

Eugenia was a special person and soul, without doubt, and her passing has left a gaping void in all of our lives. Few people of the thousands who are a part of the international community in Nairobi, and beyond, would not have known her, and of those that did all appreciated her and the effort she put into all she did. I did not know her as well as many, particularly long term COU colleagues, but in the 2 plus years since I joined the team it was clear she was an important ingredient to keep things moving and in order and as a team we will miss her so much. We all know she was devoted to and loved by her family and our hearts go out to husband Gil and all her family, their loss is immeasurable. Farewell sweet Eugenia, our precious colleague and friend, we hope you are now at peace.

Dear Family of Eugenia. I was so sad to hear the news of Eugenia's passing. I did not know her well- however, would meet her often at the UN petrol station and in her office on the main UNON campus. We would often just have a very pleasant chat and she knew I was from Australia. I think one of you kids was studying or living in Australia so we would talk about that. She was always so cheerful, helpful, kind with a lovely energy around her. I always felt good after our interactions. In the small way I knew Eugenia, she was wonderful and warm. My heart and prayers goes out to you all.

I remember like yesterday the year 2001 when l was seconded to work in COU-UNON on a special assignment. This is when l first met Eugene and we struck it off right away. My stay in COU ended up being prolonged and it ended in 2007 when l headed back to BFMS-UNON. My best memories are built around getting to know Eugene and her family so well. Her 3 girls and the boy became personal friends. Brilliant kids, to say the least. It was about the same time that l started my family and Eugene become a mentor in many ways. She got me great books to read on how to raise a good family. She visited our house and shared great recipes with my wife. Eugene could not stop giving. No wonder, she and her good husband and kids were so blessed. I kept reminding her that the good book says "lt is more blessed to give than to receive". Finally, l remember Eugene's big heart for people. While working with her at the UN Gift Shop, she knew all our supplier (100s of them) by their first names and treated them very well. Rarely would she get into unnecessary arguments. I could go on and on, but l will stop here and pray that the family will have the Grace to bear this lose and may the good Lord give them peace that surpasses all understanding during this time of mouning. AMEN.  Paul Kamau Ngurimu(UNON _ 1999 - 2018).

Dear Eugenia,

you are now with the angels, gone far too soon. Thank you for being the helping angel you were here on earth, though your time was cut short. Rest well my dear.

Dear Gil and family, my deepest condolences for your loss. When you can't see God's hand, trust his heart. He will carry you through this immense ocean of grief.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

My dear Eugenia,

You left me in total shock, this is your Jamaican friend, you welcomed me when I just joined UNON and you are always made me feel so loved. You are an angel and the Lord was ready for you to brighten his other angels in heaven like you did to the staff on the compound. I will miss you dearly. I wish your entire family comfort at this time and may the Lord wrap his arms around them and allow them to find comfort knowing that you are at peace. I lmiss you my dear Eugenia. One love from your Jamaican sister. I dedicate the song 'No woman Nuh Cry' by Bob Marley. May your beautiful soul rest in peace.

Rest in Peace

Our prayers and thoughts are with Eugenia's family.
She was a great neighbour- kindly offering me a ride to the Complex back in 2019. On the way, she spoke lovingly about her children, grandchildren, and offered good advice. She always spoke her mind and carried herself with grace. I am appreciative of her kindness, and pray that the people she left behind go on to make her proud.

Not as a former Chief of COU but as someone who had a very special connection with my 'little one' as I always called Eugene - I pay tribute to a very special lady.

It was an instant locking of hearts when Josie Villamin first introduced us In 1992. I took Eugene under my protective wing to run the UN Gift Shop. It took Eugene's energetic and creative gifts  to transform a small area with only T-shirt to eventually moving to a large and very attractive Gift Shop!  It's success was mainly due to Eugene's open and friendly character that enticed Diplomats and Representatives  to do all their shopping under one roof!!  This included former UN Secretary General and Mrs. Kofi Annan.

Eugene was an example of peace, tranquility, good humour and laughter.  Fly high, dearest little one and you will be received with all the love and joy that you spread when you were with us!  We will always remember and never forget!!
