As a young person, I often heard my mother Grace Fisher Suter speak fondly and with deep emotion of her cousin Faye Hooley Byers and her family who were missionaries in Mexico. Mother prayed for them faithfully.

But it was not until Faye married HD and came to live at VMRC in Virginia that I got to learn to know her as my dear Prima. While on a trip in 2010 to Switzerland, Germany and Italy, Sam shared at a devotional time about his special interest in helping persons give up their addiction to alcohol. Faye immediately wanted us to join her for a visit with "her people" in Mexico, which we were able to do.

Our thoughts and prayers are often with 'her people" and that some persons can know life without the addiction of alcohol.

Faye was the very best person I ever knew in her ability to share the Love of Jesus with everyone! I surely miss her genile spirit and loving smile!

Much love to her family and all her people!

Sister Faye was a friend of my first wife, Helen Kropf, from Zion Menn. Church, and a blessing to our family. We have been blessed to be involved in some of her projects thru the years, to fulfill our Lord’s desire of sharing the gospel. God bless you all as the work continues.

I loved your Mom and feel honored to have met her and called her my friend. What a wonderful legacy she has left us with...first of all you, her children, and then all of the others she took into her heart. I have her book (actually a few copies of it), and I appreciate that you made the video of her 50 years of mission work so that we can remember her faithfulness to God.

Faye's life expressed inspiration and devotion to God, by fulfilling her missionary calling.

Our friendship of 55 years is remembered and cherished.

To Dennis, Gwen, Rick and Cindy; you were always at the center of your mother's heart. In return, the wonderful care, love and help you extended to her is to be admired.

When I was a teen, I (Jan) remember my mother fervently praying often for her Cousin Faye and family, who were missionaries in Mexico. It wasn't until 2007 that I first met Faye and felt instantly like she was my dear friend! My dear Prima! Sam and I have been incredibly blessed by knowing her and some of her ministry.

In 2010 we enjoyed traveling to Italy with a group including Faye and HD where she heard Sam tell about his care for persons with Alcohol Abuse. Soon after at her invitation, we accompanied her and Rick to La Paz and on to Santa Theresa for Sam to visit with the dear friends there and do some teaching about AA.

Faye was a most loving, caring, God-like lady whose primary role was sharing the Good News of Jesus with everyone! We loved her and will miss her!!

Our deep sympathy to all her dear family!!
Much Love,
Sam and Jan Showalter

Though having never met Faye personally, we are very aware of the legacy she has left in Baja. She truly has given the world the right impression of the love of Jesus and has brought lasting glory to His name. I'll meet you in heaven sweet soul.

We all have regrets. One of mine is not having spent more time with my Aunt Faye. I was a teenager when Faye was staying with us a couple days at my parent’s home. That was the first time I witnessed firsthand anyone (besides my pastor or Sunday school teachers at Church) taking God seriously, when they thought no one could see or hear them. Faye was praying early one morning in the next room. I can still hear the passion and sincerity in her voice. It left an indelible impression on me as to the reality of God to her. I came to want to experience that reality myself.

I watched my Aunt take God seriously, her entire life. Although I was not around her a great deal, I have looked at her as a mentor or “elder” in my life because of that for years. She has always been one that I would not want to disappoint where God was concerned. Though she went on ahead of us and is not with us anymore, that will continue to be the case.

Faye’s passion for doing God’s work and her commitment and love for Jesus set her apart as a spiritual giant. She was an extraordinarily gifted woman who had a special anointing in her life that I felt whenever I was around her. It was almost intimidating. In a good way. Faye was not only a “tool” that God would pick up now and then to accomplish His work, she was the “go to,” favored tool.

I am going to miss knowing Faye is there doing what she did. She was always so encouraging to me in my walk with the Lord. I look forward to our reunion one day.

Dennis, Gwen, Rick, & Cindy: I loved your mom. You all have set the bar so high in how you have cared for her and shown her love over the years, that no one I know could come close to ever jumping over it. Extraordinary love for others runs deep in your family.

Written by Jean & VR Hylton;

Dearest Dennis, Gwen, Rick and Cindy, I"ve watched the video in its entirety, and read the Story.

Also, I'm so humbled that I was honored to get to live part of her story and her amazing journey! I have to say I learned so much more about her, and her passion for souls than was in the book, and things that I didn't now.

I was in awe at the grandiose presentation that you all put on to help in the celebration of her life.

There was a 3 PART DVD, "THE GREATEST GENERATION" with Tom Browkaw, NBC News produced that names some people included as part of the Greatest Generation. Your Sainted Mother would be included among the greats of our generation.

We cherish each one of you along with your spouses, and all of your posterity. What a joy to now each one of you, and to know your individual participation in this wonderful ministry your parents founded and is continually being perpetuated! Good job!!!

Faye was faithful to the faith, faithful to the fight, faithful to the finish in Jesus Name! What a legacy of love she left behind making an eternal world of difference in Jesus Name. We met this dear hero of the faith through Jerry & Maggie Emmert at the Sandy Salmon Lodge in Oregon. We loved hearing her testimony and were encouraged by her missionary heart for the Lord. May her life and story be multiplied a ten thousand times over in the lives of the precious Mexican people and everyone she touched in Jesus Name! She will be missed on earth and so at home in Heaven. May comfort, healing, and hope fill every member of her family and inspire them to follow Faye's footsteps all the way to Heaven.  Love & Prayers, Gil & Carol Harder ~ Romans 15:13

Thank you so much for your faithfulness in living a life that counted. Dennis, Gwen, Rick and Cindy, this is such a beautiful tribute to your Mother! I know each of you also from an early age contributed to the ministry and continue. You have given so much too. This is a beautiful testimony of God's grace, faithfulness and love. Looking forward to the monthly newsletter of Maranatha Missions in Mexico in this ministry started by someone who listened, trusted, and obeyed.
