Shocking Indeed

March 13, 2013

I had just entered the house and thought to check my mails having been away for 10days and alas I saw a mail with RURCON. Noooooo! was my imediate reaction, this must be some sort of a sick joke I hoped. Brother Nehe, will allay your fears, I thought, call him they are always together anyway, he is the best to clarify this mistake. No my sister, I heard Nehe say, "It is true, Eze is no more". Blank, I switched off the phone, a numb feeling swept over me. Life, oh life I thought. It is so perplexing how life can switch so swiftly between sweet and sour.

My family and I remember Esther and the children and the entire RURCON family. Indeed we have lost a shining star. Only God can soothe the pang of this pain. We pray for grace to enable us to uphold eachother in prayers.

TESTIMONY

TESTIMONY

RURCON as a family are devastated by the death of our colleague and friend Ezekiel Gyang Gwom.  He had worked with RURCON for about 22 years, and last week, just last week death snatched him away from us on 14th February, 2013.  As a Finance Officer, he worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) providing solutions and advises on financial management for the growth and sustainability of the organisation.

Ezekiel Gyang Gwom was an inspiration; a mentor and a very loyal colleague friend and a brother to us all. He was a man who had passion for life and for people. He had great intellect and never stopped in his quest for knowledge.

He was always relating well with all staff in the office, partner organisations, the entire CSOs and visitors alike.  He was a cheerful giver; he gives generously to all in terms of human development, he shared freely his intellect to all who were able to access it.  One of his greatest qualities that we can speak about without looking back is that Ezekiel can easily displease himself to please others.  He is humble, nice, polite with high sense of humour, slow to anger and quick in making everyone feel at ease in his presence.  He was quite constructive in his speech and very articulated – no wonder politics was imbibed in him.

In Development work, he was a practitioner leading the way in this area in the care for people with a soft heart.  This extended into political arena where with open arms; he was willing and ready to serve his people but never had the chance practically yet was achieved in principle.

His love touched all those around him and he treated one and all with the same courtesy and respect.  His passionate desire for growth in life is done in the same respect and kindness to every one of us.  This was a hall mark of his life as a friend and colleague.

In his free time, he loved to discuss and analyse topical issues and proffer solutions to addressing such problems with all eagerness.

Ezekiel was full of life, enthusiastic about politics and was never scared to voice an opinion and passionate about the humanitarian work that he pursued so well until he met his death on 14th day of February, 2013 which was coincidentally his 15th year marriage anniversary.

A great man who had the gift of making everyone feel at ease in his presence. Little did we know you were telling us good bye as you were up and doing in the office that fateful day of your home calling.  Ezekiel, you are a true gentleman, with a gift of making each and every one of us feel valued.

Thanks for being all of these in our lives.

Ezekiel’s death is a huge blow to us in RURCON and the Civil Society Organisation in general both personally and professionally. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
