I attended St Theresa elementary school and David was in my class. He was quiet and always smiling. We lost touch over the years but I did see him when he was at St Elizabeth’s in Shreveport La. He is greatly missed. His reverence and old fashioned respectful ways was greatly appreciated. He truly honored God by everything he said and did. I truly regret I didn’t stay in touch with him over the years. I know my sister Cathy still goes to St Elizabeth’s and misses him and his guidance. Rest in peace and hope your birthday is celebrated in heaven. What a wonderful day!!

Star Wars

January 4, 2018

Fr. David loved the Star Wars movie series.  One night he dropped by my house to visit and my son William was playing a Star Wars video game.  Fr. David took a seat next to him on the floor and they played the game together for several hours, Fr. David clutching my son's light sabor and waving it with great flair while he hooped and howled with my boy.

My son gushed after his visit, saying it was so cool that a priest liked Star Wars as much as he did!  What a sight the two of them were there on the floor together.  I will always treasure that memory!!

I was blessed to know Fr. David at both Christ the King and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  I marveled at his calmness no matter what happened.  He enjoyed coming to visit at the school (Christ the King) with the students and was such a great role model for them.  His genuine caring was apparent to all.
We were so excited when we found out that he would be coming to St. Elizabeth's.  He was just what we needed after losing Fr. Burleigh.  It was not too long after his arrival that we moved to Houston.
He is still missed.

My Talk at the 25th Anniversary of David's Ordination

November 7, 2016

Greetings

I’m Randy Richter

I’m the eldest of the Richter boys

I was the one who was supposed to be the priest

Boy, are you all fortunate (especially my wife and daughters)

David, I know you have HEARD about older brothers who tease their younger sibs, well…

Anyway,

When I was 5, I began praying for a little brother.

When I was 7, he arrived and I named him David.

David and Ann were characters in my 1st grade reader.

I guess I could have named him Ann, but that would not have worked out so well.

You know, back then, just like today, David started getting all of the attention.

I began praying for God to take him back.

(or so my parents tell me)

I guess he did in a BIG and UNEXPECTED way.

Some might think that I would have become a little jealous.

After all, I had gotten all the attention being an only child.

But I didn’t  ;-)

However, I just need to let you all know that David is not as perfect as you might believe.

For example, which of the Richter boys has not been put behind bars at one time or another? Guess…

Me? Kevin? Mark?  David? ------> You guessed it...Mark!

Fashion sense?  Everyone knows that if you want to look taller, you should wear monochromatic clothing (you know, the same color shirt, pants jacket).  David is already tall.  He wears black shirts, black pants and a black jacket almost every day.

It makes him look even taller. That intimidates others. Not a worthy goal.  (But maybe that’s why his second collections are so successful)

Maybe Kevin and I should have been the priests.

The least David could do is wear a blue or gray shirt like some other clergy.

Finally, all of the Richter boys have motorcycle endorsements on their driver’s licenses.

Guess who have Harley Davidson Motorcycles and who doesn’t even have a motor scooter?  I have one.  Kevin? Mark?

At the “Run for the Nuns” it was so embarrassing. No motorcycle vest – even the Bishop had a motorcycle vest.  No motorcycle – he had to sit on ours for photos.

Well, we’re going to fix that today.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In all seriousness, I am thankful to God for giving us the parents we have. The encouragement and support that mom and dad have given us boys has been limitless.  God chose David for the priesthood and they could not have been more pleased or proud.

Neither could we. He is an exemplary man and a consummate priest.  A great brother and brother in law. A loving uncle. Congratulations to Uncle Brother Father Dave on this 25th anniversary of his ordination.

(And we gave him a motorcycle vest and a miniature motorcycle).
