My Dear Wife,
Where should I start? I will start from the beginning. I remember when you married my father, he had just endured a tragic accident wherein he was hospitalized for over a year and then was later in physical therapy for more than another year. Your steadfast waiting for his recovery further demonstrated the depths of the love you had for him as well as his children. I recall countless trips to the farm in where we would work, laugh, sing, and most importantly just be together and share each other's company. Over the years, your union with my father was blessed with five beautiful children who I feel grateful to call my siblings. We have lived a life together which was full of both good and bad times. Nevertheless, I feel so grateful to have had you as a mother. I am going to miss you and may your soul rest in peace. Goodbye until we meet again. Sun re.

O death, where is your sting?.
Precious in the sight of the LORD Almighty is death of His Saints.
My dear mother, the unforgettable moment we had together since about three years and even at fortress Health Consultant would forever remain fresh in my memory.I thought it would be like normal old days, you were admitted and later get well and discharge from hospital, to go back home.    "Eye olojaeye" you were a special gift from God to us all; you fulfilled your purpose on Earth to the Glory of God. You were my best friend, ever loving mother, kind and passionate; for this I will miss you so greatly.

A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted, how time flies; down on memory lane I thank God for you life and for your prayer life which I cultivated from you. I remembered how we used to go to prayer city together back then to pray. " Mama" I love you so much. Rest in peace.

Tribute to my Sister
Ha o ! EYE OLOJA
The cruel hand of death has finally struck that I will never see you again in Earth.
It is unfortunate that this END will come to every living BEING.
You were our GENERALSIMO since our mother passed on in the early fifties. You did not allow me to feel the vacuum, the loss of our mother created . You were always there for me . What a terrible and big loss now!
Even though you are no more physically with us your memory will continue to linger on in our hearts . The live and care you have for your siblings and others that you exhibited all through your life shall polish you bright for the acceptance of your creator.
EYE OLOJA ( EGBON MI GIDIGIDI ) , Sleep on at the bossom of your LORD JESUS CHRIST whom you served faithfuly , until the last day when shall meet to part no more. ADIEU ! !! !!!

THE MAMA THAT I KNOW (EYE OLOJA 1)

I know Julie Graham and Mama never met but Julie’s word and mama’s life has shown to me that eternity is written in man’s heart. Permit me to quote Julie, “I don’t know exactly what the future holds. But I’m stepping forward with grit anchored in grace”. The tenacity with which mama Felicia Omoseke Odumakinde (Nee Fashua) faced the world proven that she came to conquer the world not just to see it. I grew up to know her as my father’s older sister. Though she and her siblings lost their mother at a very tender age and the responsibility of mothering them all fell on her so quickly. This duty she embraced and never failed to fulfil till her eyes were closed in death. Her care knows no bound, her love for her siblings, siblings’ children was limitless, her industry proved she knew her game very well and her never die spirit has shown the world is surmountable.

Mama was very passionate. Therefore, “she saw that her resting place was good and that her land was pleasant, so she bent her shoulder to the burden and submitted to labor as a servant”. She was involved in so many trades she was known to be; Eye Ologede (Plantains seller), Eye Olobi (Kolanut trader) she would do everything and anything legitimate to provide for us her children. A very industrious woman who never had any formal education but went to the best school ever “The Street University” where she got her bachelor degree and further her education in the University of Life Experiences and bagged her master degree. No wonder these words of her classmate in the university of life experiences continually ring a bell; “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Mama cherished education so much so that she ensured all her children went to school; Mama encouraged herself with her popular song at P.T.A (Parent Teachers Association) meetings, Unity Secondary School Ikere- Ekiti will not forget her in a hurry

Song:

O o mi ewa o (My fingers are ten)

Ose mi ewa (My feet toes are ten)

Ogun li mo se (Total twenty)

Ki me r’oni ran mi li sukuru (If I can't find someone who will send me to school)

Ma ran mo’mi (I will send my children)

Olorun mbe le’yin a tapata died o (God is the support of those with no silver spoon)

Let me use this medium to list some of mama spoken English;

Awa you re (How are you?)
O rite ti dat so (Alright that’s all)
Orin-gin- al daadaa (very original)
E dat’s all (That is all)
Mama, a woman of many parts, to some she was a daughter, a wife, a mother, an aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, a helper, a care giver, a family matriarch, a fashionista, a confidant, but for me I will simply put a virtuous mother. Because she exhibited the full attribute of the woman described in Proverb 31:10-31.

Rafeli (Raphael) as she fondly called me, I will miss her call with such a dramatic emphasis. Every morning you wake up with mama you are sure of the family oriki which she recites effortlessly.

She was a pillar of support to all; mama is dependable and ever willing to help in any situations. Her fighting spirit is second to none even till death she kept asking after her family. Aunty Bola told me that few days to her demise she asked;

Mama: Bola, wo gbero Alaba (do you hear from Alaba)

Bola: mama mi O r’Alaba (No mama)

Mama: we di kesi lori phone. O ye ki ti de be i. ( try and call him on phone. He should have been here)

Bola: Ma pe, mama e lo’gun yin (I will him. Mama take your drug)

In closing Permit, me to quote from the words of C. JoyBell C; “Elegance is a glowing inner peace. Grace is an ability to give as well as to receive and be thankful. Mystery is a hidden laugh always ready to surface! Glamour only radiates if there is a sublime courage & bravery within: glamour is like the moon; it only shines because the sun is there.”

A Cherished Wife, Mother and Grandmother.

A cherished wife, mother and grandmother you were and will forever be.
You showed love throughout a lifetime.
The prayers you sent my way will forever be remembered.
I remember those days on the farm in the cocoa plantation.
Where you worked from sunup till sundown alongside my father and his wives.
You were so strong and worked so hard.
To take good care of our family.
Hours spent and such time we can never forget.
You proved your faithfulness and devotion to the Odumakinde family.
We find that we can never do enough to express the depth of our gratitude for your sacrifice.
But you will be remembered in sweetest memories every day.
For you have blessed our lives and the Odumakinde family forever.
Through your goodness, love and strength.
Sleep on and Sleep well.
And when the roll is called, there again we shall behold your smiling face in the light of the glory of our
heavenly Father.

Tribute to My Mother….

Yemi-Yemi,
Hmm… it took a while to find words. Your demise barely three months after Sister’s was a lot to take in. It felt so wrong, so unfair! I felt beaten back to back wondering what I missed.
But then I remember…
1Cor. 15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Rom. 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them”
I remember the lessons I have learnt. One that stands out was coming home from school while in first grade and I greeted you. Instead of responding to my greeting, you just started running through the list of errands you wanted me to do. So, I called you out on it asking why your ‘To-do’ list is more important than greeting your child welcome home from school. You paused and you acknowledged my point; for an African mother that says a lot. What a person of peace you are! And now as a mother, when my kids called me out on something, I remember the lesson I have learnt. That to acknowledge correction even from a child does not make me weak; it makes me wise!
I love the way it is important to you for your children to get along and work together. You did not quote any scripture about it, but I know that comes directly from the heart of the Father.
You were a strong woman and you worked really hard. I was hoping we could pamper you a bit longer. But you are with the Lord Jesus now and I’m sure He would do a much better job of spoiling you than I ever could. As you take your place among the ‘Cloud of Witnesses’, may I always give you and my Lord Jesus reasons to smile.
Rest on mother, you have done excellently well.

All gratitude to God for the life of mama Felicia Omoseke Odumakinde. I am a privileged beneficiary of part of her life’s work - the raising of virtuous children, one of whom I have called my wife for over 15 years. I met mama in 2009 upon her visit with us in Pennsylvania to help us with the arrival of our first daughter. True to God, I did not always understand everything she said but her good heartedness permeated the dialectal variation of our language until I eventually learnt to say "Kin ti fo?" (meaning “What did you say?”) which often put a smile on both of us. Mama was a woman of wisdom and gentle spirit, never rendered opinion on our nuclear family discourse except we sought the benefit of her wisdom. Mama was an exemplary mother, and her virtues live on through the many lives she touched.
Mama, when we meet again, I will understand everything you say, for we shall all speak one dialect. Sun re o, mama rere.

My dear mother-in- law.
You passed away a few months ago, and I really don't believe it. l always feel very close to you, see you as another mother. And you always treated me like your son. Losing you was unexpected,we all thought you were pulling through. Ever since you passed,l just can't stop thinking about you, and I get this anxious numbing feeling when l realise you're actually gone; that you won't know our kids, you won't be just down the road or a phone call away. You were the central figure in our extended family and l just don't know how we will move on from this, I'm just so lost and can't believe you're gone. Rest in peace mother. Adieu .

My grandmother, I honestly didn't know how to cope with, nor wanted to believe you were truly gone. I always knew you were there, across the earth all the way in Nigeria while I lived my life in America. I remember the first time you visited, you were so peaceful. I remember when I was young, and I would be brought to your house. How you'd bathe me with care, and allow me to run about your house as much as I wished. I remember that surge of excitement hearing, "We're going to mama's place." the memories are vague, yet now they feel as pristine and precious as gold. I remember the song you used to sing for my sister, and how jealous I'd get hearing it. I remember our final phone call, I asked you to sing. You were too sick to meet my ultimatum, so I compromised, saying that once you were out of the hospital, you could sing for me.

Now all I hope is that you're singing high praises for our Lord, Jesus Christ, in heaven. I say from the bottom of my heart, that your voice will be most appreciated by the God who gave you that same gift for singing.

Sincerely, your grandchild, Tinuoluwa Deboroah Ponle-Atilade

This short 21 years that i know you has been truly eventful and full of pleasant memories! Even with my little understanding of the local dialect of Ijare which you fondly and consistently use to pray every morning and always. My Mother......My heroe!!!!!

Yeemi, How do i say goodbye to my heroe? You inspired me in so many ways, you were so involved with my education right from my days at St Peter's primary school. You never missed the PTA meeting at Unity, your attendance was ever counted upon, even if nobody show up - You will. At college days you always ensured my beans were clean, free from debris and money in my pocket at greater cost to you. Those sacrifices were deeply appreciated.
Yeemi, as married, you dotted on me like the little girl i was, i constantly reflect on your stories that summed up -Being peaceful, humble and trusting God for all things. My children will never forget all the songs in our local dialect at devotion time.
Yeemi - my prayer Champion! You were that intercessor i counted upon at all time. My neighbours at Ikorodu ever attested to your prayer time as their ready set alarm clock to get up and get going for the day.
Yeemi, my heroe with a Beautiful mind. You thought me integrity and contentment early in life, never to be greedy.
Yeemi, you have done excellently, you come, lived and conquered .
Good night till will meet to part no more. Rest in boosom of our Lord Jesus Christ (Amen)

Origin
Mama was born in the early years of 1930s to the family of Pa Yeye John Olamide Fashua and Mama Olojo Adaramoye of Mariyan in Ijare. She was the first of four children from her mother. The fourth child and first daughter of her father.
The major occupation of Ijare people is farming, and as was the custom those days, every child follows their parents to farm and engage in the business of farming. Mama was no exception. She was fully involved in farming with her parents.

Early Life
With no formal education, Mama grew up on the farm like any other child of her age at the time. Losing her mother to the cruel hand of death in her twenties was a big setback for her. Being the first of four children, she automatically assumed a motherly role for her siblings. Despite moving to her maternal grandmother’s house [mama Amusitan Adaramoye] at Mariyan to be under the care of her aunties, mama was totally involved in caring for her three siblings. She ensured that the youngest of her siblings who ended up becoming an engineer received a formal education.

Marriage
Mama was naturally a peaceful and obedient child. The choice of husband was given by her father. And true to her nature, she obeyed her father’s voice. Her marriage to Pa ODUMAKINDE was blessed with children. The first fruit of the marriage was embraced into this world, January 21st, 1961. Unfortunately, she exited this sinful world June 25th, 2020. The incident that was believed to have hasten mama’s death 92 days later.
Pa Odumakinde was a successful farmer of many parts. A professional and fulltime fulfilled cocoa farmer. Mama alongside other wives and children went into farming with him. As days rolled into years, children growing up and leaving home for schools, the population of the family available for farm work dwindled. Baba had to hire helping hands to work the farm. This enabled mama to follow her passion for trading.

Business Life

Mama was involved in many trades, chief amongst these was transporting unripe plantain from Ijare and environs to Oyingbo market in Lagos state. She also sold foodstuff like garri, rice, and beans. Later, she got into kolanut business which is the economic mainstay of Ijare women. She was a member of egbe Amobisoro, Lagos Chapter at Agege, Oyingbo, and Eko locations. This she did till her later years before retiring to care for her grandkids, a task she lovingly did with passion until old age and illness brought a bane to this desire.

Crusader of Formal Education
Although, formally uneducated, mama cherished formal education with a passion. One of her early life’s trading was selling cooked lunch to pupils on the premises of St Peter’s Primary school alongside her friend Miss Abolade during their maiden years.
Mama was so involved in her children’s education that she never missed any Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings of their school. One incident that readily came to mind was how mama championed the change to the language of communication during PTA meetings at Ondo state Unity Secondary School, Ikere - Ekiti. The PTA meeting was conducted in the English Language as usual, and Mama could not comprehend anything said during the meeting. When opportunity was given for questions, mama got up and sang a song to drive home her point. She let the house know that she would have to report to her husband whatever was discussed in the meeting but English language as a mode of communication has defeated that purpose. Little did she know that she was not the only one at loss; a sizable number of the attendees were lost too. The principal and PTA board Chairman at the time then decided that HENCEFORTH PTA meeting would be conducted in the Yoruba Language so long the school exists!
Mama was a good match for the task and responsibilities required for her children’s education. Bisola testified of her primary school days how mama will engage older brothers and sisters or any educated fellow around to check the accuracy of her homework. Though she never learned within the four walls of school, she was so versatile. She loved and spent her time and resources on education not only for her biological relatives but for many people around her. She will always say nothing is too small.

Christian Life
Mama was born into a church-going family. Her father was the first osi-ijo at St. Peters Anglican Church Ijare. Mama was more of a religious madame, who believes in going to church and paying all her dues and fulfilling church duties. That changed in the early 90s at about sixty years old, when mama had an encounter with Jesus Christ. This transformed her life completely. She was born again and had baptism by immersion. Mama believed in Jesus Christ, in His ability to do all things. She was a prayer champion, who consistently prayed in the midnight hours. She loved the Lord and served him till the very last breath of life. She had such an aura of serenity around her that she could calm even the most agitated. This was her gift that the Lord bestowed upon her, and that she was loved for. At a quick glance you could see and feel her peace, and that is a trait and skill she mastered so well in her Christianity.
Mama is a member of Ajumogbadura and Egbe aya Bishop[the lady's wing] of St Peter's Church Ijare. A pioneer member of Egbe Moroluwayo[egbe Ayoka]and patron of this group -a position she assumed after the death of father in 1986.

Her Legacy
Mama lives on in the memory of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all her relatives. She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith and peaceful persona with a generous heart not only by her relatives but also by all those privileged to have encountered her.
