Florance or Flo as she prefered to be called was born in Jackfield Shropshire just down the road from Ironbridge Coalbrokedal on 23rd Febuary 1945 to Mary Johnson. She had two older sisters Gloria (4 yrs older) and Elizabeth (2 yrs older aprox). They all lived with her grandparents Annie and Tom Johnson, who brought up their 3 granddaughters after their mother left not long after my mothers birth. Tom Johnson died when my mother was 8 yrs old and her grandmother brought them up alone working hard at numorus jobs, they later moved to Broseley where her family continued to live after my mother married Arthur Whittingham and had me on December 29th 1963.My mother hung round with her cousin Margret Johnson the daughter of her Uncle Jack, amongst others and would often tell of how they used to go scrumping for apples.
