To David, Doug, Jane and Susan: What a wonderful celebration of Florence yesterday. Thank you for an opportunity to remember a life well lived. I shall never forget the times we spent together: When she suggested dinner and martinis, when she called of a Sunday afternoon, when we talked about politics during her treatment. She will always be in our fondest memories.

Along with transitions are traditions -- and I remember the Nordstrom sale back-to-school outfit tradition that meant so much to you that we squeezed it in with the summer NSDC conference. I will help you remember her by shopping again this summer... Much love, Edie

My husband Ivan and I had the pleasure of working for Florence in her home every Thursday. We talked about the world, dreamed of the future, shared memories of our past, and of course, cheered on her beloved Huskies. I loved hearing about all of you as well, her dear loved ones. You were deeply loved by our dear Florence. We loved her immensely. Our prayers are with you now.

Dear Jane,I met her just once at your wedding two years ago.Yesterday I brought out the letter she sent me last year. Her neatly written words on sky blue paper led me to some footprint of her spirit - how sincere and also delicate she was. . . May Florence dwell in the Light - in the Source of Blessing, and I hope the same blessing to you and all your family.-Siot

Dear Jane, Brian and Emily, We were so sorry to see that your Mom/Grandma passed away. I remember her very well from our Sacajawea days. She was always very involved, funny, smart, and so supportive of her family. She set the "Grandma Bar" very high, and it was an honor to know her. Shawn, Randy & Tyler Moore

Dear Jane, Susan, Doug, and David I have struggled with a way to be included in the out pouring of love that your Mom has generated. She has been a becon in my life simply by calling me whenver she wanted to feel close to her sister , your Aunt Bobbie. That becon will still burn in my heart and you will always have cousins who welcome you to visit in California. Hugs, Cathy and Don

Jane, I am so sorry to hear of this news. It was only a couple of days ago I was on the bus, and as it went over the freeway overpass I looked west and picked out my old apartment deck and wondered how Florence was doing. I enjoyed knowing her those years when I was on the top floor and of course you across the way. In the mean time my thoughts are with you and your family. Love, Norene

Doug Edelstein wrote: Florence was perceptive, candid, fearless, self-possessed, graceful and was among the greatest of the greatest generation. She was amazingly; strong of character, smart and funny to the end, and limitlessly compassionate. Her legacy for all of us is her strength, kindness, courage and integrity, her passion for justice, and of course, her love of friends and family
