Berta’s charm, beauty, and love for life shined through from the moment I met her. She has been a treasure to my family ever since. I remember how smitten my Dad was over her, “those eyes and that smile is everything” he says. They were inseparable from the beginning and there’s no doubt that she and Dad were destined to be together. Both of them sharing an immense love for their children and family that was mutually admired.
Berta had more than a beautiful smile and the best cooking skills…she had a cheerful spirit and her love for God was evident. A woman of incredible faith and strength. I always admired how she received all of life’s ups and downs, with so much grace. Her generosity for everyone was unwavering and abundant and her loving care warmed our hearts. All her selfless ways never went unnoticed and will forever be grateful for the time and love she gave to my grandmother when she needed it the most and at her elder age.
Together Dad and Berta, had 8 grand-children, and she had enormous love for them, actually for all children, the nieces, nephews, godchildren, even the children she babysat for. They were her pride and joy. Each week she and Dad would facetime with my kids, read stories, and play games over the screen. She was so fun-loving and she created this character "Napkin Lady" where she would place a napkin over her face, poke holes through the yes and hold it up by her mouth and change her voice, almost like Julia Childs, and the kids would break out in giggles and laughter. She truly was the best with the kids.
It has been a blessing to have Berta as a step-mom. She was so easy-going and never caused any drama. I received nothing but love from her...always. If Dad ever fussed at her, I always had her back and stepped him. All fun, but she was too precious and amazing to give a hard time. I am thankful for having her in my life, for loving my father, for loving the family, and for loving me. I miss her voice and laughter and I will miss great moments with her, our conversations, playing games with her, like Scrabble, and just sharing space with her. She was one of a kind.
