How can we forget Fr Tarcy
A Holy man
A humble man
Remembered to pray for him at today's Eucharist
Surely he is praying for each one of us here on earth
This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved,Fr Tarcy Mathias who was born in Mangalore, India on May 14, 1931 and passed away in Reggio Emilia, Italy on September 14, 2010. In his 79 years on earth Fr Tarcy travelled many paths and made a lot of friends along the way who are very sorry to say goodbye.
You will be remembered forever by all your friends.
My husband Liam and I were lucky to be married by Fr Tarcy in Meryemana in October 2007.
Little did we know when we went to meet him for the first time to arrange the ceremony that we would have the ultimate pleasure and honour to get to know such a special person. There aren’t enough words to describe what a genuine and special person he was. He made me and Liam feel so welcome and at ease and I cherish the fond memory of us three sitting in the back garden of the Fathers house, having a glass of beer together, talking about anything and everything.
The year after the wedding I called Fr Tarcy, one month before we were going to Turkey again, to arrange to bring him out for dinner and also to see if there was anything he wanted us to bring him from Ireland (like Barry’s tea or Irish mist). Fr Tracy’s answer to me was : “No, all I want you to bring is your good news” and he laughed. I asked what he meant and he just said that he was looking forward to the good news that I was bringing him. I was 3 months pregnant at the time and there was no way that he could have found out.
May that year was the last time we met Fr Tarcy and he was delighted with the happy news we had for him.
I would have loved him and my daughter Hanna to meet but that was unfortunately not to happen. I did send pictures of her to him when he was in hospital in Italy.
He has touched our hearts in such a special way and I know he is watching over us all from heaven.
RIP Fr Tarcy – you will always be in our hearts.

I am, thanks God, one of the lucky people, who got to know our dearest Father Tarcy. I met him in Izmir in 1999 just after the death of my dearest father during difficult times in my life. Father Tarcy has been always beside me and my family giving us always a lot of strength. I am sure spiritually he will continue to do this to all of us. I would like to thank you very much for having had this wonderful idea to create this memorial gathering place on which we can share the nice memories that we all had with our dearest and unique Father Tarcy. Thank you so much. God Bless You, Monique
