ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Fran Hedges. We will remember her forever.
Fran was a beautiful, inspiring and wise person who touched the lives of many: as a friend, a mother figure, a psychotherapist, a mentor, a trainer, a supervisor, a writer, an artist...
Fran loved life and was full of life! She used her innate curiosity and warmth to meet and be with others but also enjoyed her solitude and the company of her beloved cat(s).
She liked all things beautiful and colourful. She was a talented artist who generously shared her art with others, whether that was through writing, painting, printing and other forms of art she experimented with over the years.
Fran's irreverence and humour were contagious and what got her through many challenging  times! She believed that change was possible and made a point of appreciating and celebrating others' strengths and potential - this is what made her such a great therapist and supervisor.
Fran believed in the power the stories we tell about ourselves and about others hold. We hope you will join us in celebrating Fran's life and legacy by sharing your own stories of connection with Fran here.

Dear Fran
You were my good friend through many fascinating work and life changes.  I remember you as brave,  grounded, street-wise, with an explorer's curiosity for 'alternatives', a committed writer of clear, understandable prose and a talented artist.   I still hear your laughter and delight in your sense of humour.   Despite early hardships, your capacity for enjoying life is inspiring.

In lieu of flowers
Although I love flowers very much, I won’t see them when I’m gone. So in lieu of flowers:
Buy a book of poetry written by someone still alive, sit outside with a cup of tea, a glass of wine, and read it out loud, or silently, by yourself, or to someone.
Spend some time with a single flower. A rose maybe. Smell it, touch the petals. Really look at it.
Drink a really nice bottle of wine with someone you love.
Or, Champagne. And think of what John Maynard Keynes said, “My only regret in life is that I did not drink more Champagne.” Or what Dom Perignon said when he first tasted the stuff: “Come quickly! I am tasting stars!”
Take out a paint set and lay down some colours.
Watch birds. Common sparrows are fine. Pigeons, too. Geese are nice. Robins.
In lieu of flowers, walk in the trees and watch the light fall into it. Eat an apple, a really nice big one. I hope it’s crisp.
Have a long soak in the bathtub with candles, maybe some rose petals.
Sit on the front stoop and watch the clouds. Have a dish of strawberry ice cream in my name. Or chocolate.
If it’s winter, have a cup of hot chocolate outside for me. If it’s summer, a big glass of ice water.
If it’s autumn, collect some leaves and press them in a book you love. I’d like that.
Sit and look out a window and write down what you see. Write some other things down.
In lieu of flowers,
I would wish for you to flower.
I would wish for you to blossom, to open, to be beautiful.
I would wish for you to align your soul, for a time, with flowers.

Fran Funeral 2

....she had slipped away
already a slip of a girl again, skipping off
her heart light her face almost smiling.

And what i didn't know, or couldn't say then
was that she hadn't really gone.
The dead don't go til you do, loved ones,
The dead are still here holding our hands.
