To our Great Aunt Frances

September 20, 2016

              Kyle and I are lucky to have so many memories with you. Your house was always our favorite place to go! Whether we played with dolls, Lincoln Logs, or model cars, you always got down on the floor to join us. You taught us how to make seven-layer graham cracker cake, and you always fed us our favorite rainbow jell-o. When we told you we didn’t know how to play the piano, you taught us how to play a few songs using our knuckles… we still remember those songs!

            One of my favorite memories will always be our trip to Camden Yards, to see Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks play the Baltimore Orioles. We knew how much you loved Randy Johnson, and we couldn’t wait to see him play. Your excitement for the game was contagious- we even tried to get his autograph!

            I have always admired the artwork you and my grandmother Betty created. You could make anything beautiful! I still have the footstool you painted for me when I was too small to reach the bathroom sink to brush my teeth. It was lovingly used all through my childhood, and I continue to treasure it to this day. I remember you telling me that we are both left-handed, and therefore very creative. I certainly am glad to share that trait with you!

           Aunt Frances, you always made Kyle and I feel so special, and very loved. You were always encouraging and playful with us. Your positive and bubbly attitude was infectious, and you made every room you entered brighter. We learned so much from you, and will miss you always. We love you Aunt Frances!

   Where does one begin to convey the affect another person has your life... Aunt Frances was that one special amazing person in my life that gave me the permission to be me.  She was my "second" Mom she always knew the right thing to say and made you feel you were the only one that mattered!  One of my fondest memories was when Thanksgiving came we celebrated a big family dinner and then I got to spend the night with Aunt Frances and Uncle Jack so Aunt Frances and I could ride the bus into Washington DC and go Christmas shopping all day.  We would go to Hecht's, Landsburgh's, Kahn's, and of course Woodies (Woodward & Lothrop).  We enjoyed looking at all the beautiful Christmas windows and finding a Christmas gift for everyone my list! When we would get home we would wrap every present and Aunt Frances' packages were the prettiest of all!! She was so creative and her imagination limitless.  My love for fairy tales and happy endings came from Aunt Frances. She taught me to dream and believe...she was an excellent seamstress, painter, gardener, all of which she shared with all of us and she was the person who always had time for you no matter what. There are soooo many stories and funny times that we all could share about Aunt Frances and yet her stories were the best!  Like ordering a lunch that I thought would be great....Lady finger sandwiches and snowball salad...ended up being peanut butter sandwich and cottage cheese...she always loved telling this one.

We will miss your twinkling smile and wonderful laughter.  Thank you for making our life so special! Your gift(s) to us are priceless.  We love you Aunt Frances xoxoxo

I will always remember Aunt Frances and her wonderful way of making you feel so special.
I remember her taking me to Bobs Big Boy and getting to sit at the lunch counter and eating the best buger ever.  It was such a treat to be able to spend the entire day with her, just the two of us!  I will cherish those memories always!
She was a very talented artist in every sense of the word, a great listener, extremely patient and very kind!
She always treated all of us Cochran kids as though we were her own children;
and she continued the tradition with all of our children.
I consider myself very blessed to share the same birthday as Frances and she always made me feel extra special about that as well!
I will miss her laughter and her stories.
She will be missed by all who knew her!
