Her Life
September 14, 2016

Frances Lucille Buckley went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8th at 9:50 pm, 2016. She was 86 years young.

Beloved wife and mother; Frances was born in Mercer Pennsylvania to Anna Marie Mehall Amon and William Wilson Amon. She grew up in the small town with a large family and graduated from Mercer High. As a teenager, she held her first job working as a domestic for Mrs. Shaner, a neighbor and dear friend. She then worked for the Rezner as a receptionist, and it was there that she met her future husband, Jack Leroy Buckley. Frances and Jack were married on November 16, 1951 and honeymooned at Niagra Falls, where she said it was too cold for her in November! Jack was called to the line of duty during the Korean War and was stationed in San Antonio Texas, where Frances worked as an operator for the phone company when it was still "Ma Bell." After that, she and Jack moved to Detroit Michigan, where Frances loved the neighbors and the area. Work then brought Frances and Jack to Washington DC, where they remained permanently after purchasing a home in New Carrollton Maryland in 1960.

With her sister Betty nearby, Aunt Frances was kept busy with her nieces and nephews. There were block parties with the neighbors on the street and loads of fun at the New Carrollton pool. In 1967, Frances and Jack's only daughter Jacquelyn, was born. Frances was a stay at home mom and enjoyed baking cookies and playing dress up with her new daughter.

Frances also liked to garden. She took pride in keeping her grass lush and green and tending to the many flower beds she cultivated in her yard. Her hard work was certainly admired by local residents and resulted in Frances winning the New Carrollton Beautification Award multiple times.

Frances also loved music, especially the piano. Her favorites were Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Barry Manilow and Elvis Presley. She would play the piano at home often and she had a pleasant singing voice. Frances taught her daughter how to play piano as well and would put on music and ask Jacquelyn to identify which instrument was being played. Frances liked exercising with Jack LaLanne, riding her bicycle and walking her dogs to stay in shape. She loved Chihuahua's and had 5 of them in her lifetime; Rebel, Toby, Peppie, Cody and Xavier. She doted on them and spoiled them rotten!

Frances was an artist and loved to create. She painted on canvas, fabric, wood... you name it, she could paint on it. Her home was filled with paintings she did herself and pillows and curtains which she made. She was excellent at sewing and could make clothing as well. She even made dog sweaters and coats for her grand dogs! She knitted too and had a collection of hand made baby clothes which she gifted to family and friends who were expecting.

Later in her life, Frances worked for Ethan Allen Furniture and became an interior decorator. She teamed up with one of her best friends and started painting houses and doing interior design. She loved working with the company of a dear friend and seeing everything come together at the end of a project.

She was also a huge baseball fan and wouldn't miss a game when left-handed (like her) Randy Johnson was pitching. She loved to read and owned a rather large library of books which took up an entire wall of her basement. She mostly liked true stories about people, particularly the Kennedy's, the mafia and Marilyn Monroe. She was smart and witty to the end. You could always count on a funny remark with a lot of truth in it too. She was a loving mother, a trusted sister, a faithful wife and a good friend. She was a kind and remarkable woman.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jack Buckley; her parents Anna Marie Mehall and William Wilson Amon; her siblings William (Ching) Amon, Gertrude Jackal, Agnes Inman, Shirley Platt, Elliott Amon, Wilson (Hack) Amon, Nancy Filer, Rosalyn Garrett, and Wayne Amon; her dogs Toby, Peppie and Cody and her granddogs Star and Rainbow.

She is survived by; her siblings Patricia Amos, Betty Cochran, Thomas Amon, Mary Galeana and Judy Anthony; her daughter Jacquelyn Buckley; her dog Xavier; her granddog Sunshine and her grandcat Mr. Munchies, along with multiple nieces and nephews.

In her honor, she would love it if you helped someone in need. Taking time to listen to a friend, loved one, or stranger could make all the difference in their world. Feed a hungry animal. Volunteer at your local shelter. Donate your time. Plant a garden. Create. Read. Listen. Listen to music. And sing.
