Her Life

Frances Mae Coughman Adams

June 11, 2018

Frances Mae Coughman Adams was born on March 15, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late, Alice and Leo Coughman. She departed this life on June 7, 2018.

Frances attended schools in Cincinnati at an early age, and joined St. Mark’s Church. She later joined St. John’s AME Zion Church, Cincinnati where she remained until moving to Lakewood, New Jersey. This is where she united with St. John’s AME Zion Church, Lakewood. She entered into Holy Matrimony to the late George H. Adams on September 4, 1948. A union from which their son George Jr. was born. Frances served as a liaison aide for the Lakewood School System, and was one of the first female postal clerks at the Lakewood Post Office. She served in many capacities as a member of St. John’s AME Zion Church for over 50 years. She was a chairman of the trustee board, a class leader, an adult teacher also assisting with Sunday School, a member of the Senior and Gospel Choir, a life member of the Missionary Board, and Lay Council. Frances loved her church, and always received much love from her church family.

Frances was predeceased by her husband, George Sr. (1999), and her son, George Jr. (2014). She leaves to cherish her memory her niece and nephew, Rosetta and Fred Douglas Coughman, of Cincinnati, her goddaughter, Audrey Wise, dear devoted friend, Augusta L. Floyd, and a host of other relatives and friends.
