Francis "Frank" Young passed away on June 16, 2013, in Berkeley, CA.  Frank, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and brother in-law, was born in Oakland, CA, on September 18, 1941. He spent his childhood in Rodeo, CA, helping his parents Dock and Ahlon Young at their family business, Young's Family Restaurant. After graduating from Berkeley High School and Laney College, Frank joined the U.S. Air Force and served 22 years as an active enlistee and also in the Air National Guard. In 1964, Frank married Eugenie Yee of San Francisco, CA.  They settled in Alameda, CA, where they raised their three children.  Frank's passion and calling was serving the community.  Frank was a longtime volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).  He served as a Webelos Leader and Cubmaster of Pack 14, and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 11. Long after his sons had finished scouting, Frank continued his involvement as a Council Commissioner and earned the "Silver Beaver" award for 40 years of distinguished service to the Alameda Council, BSA.  Frank concurrently served as an instructor for the American Red Cross in CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness Survival. After his retirement from BART, Frank continued to serve the community as a Senior Volunteer with the California Highway Patrol and as a member of the Wa Sung Community Service Club (a Chinese community service organization).
Frank is survived by his wife Genie, son Douglas and his wife Marlene, son Brian and his wife Kristin, daughter Joanne, grandchildren, Tyler, Makena, Sophia, and Joshua, brother Kenneth Young and his wife Stella of Sacramento, CA, brother and sister in-laws Steven and Garienne Nakano of Alameda, brother in-law David Minoggio of Richmond, CA, brother in-laws Benjamin Yee and Michael Bogart of Emeryville, CA,, brother and sister in-laws William and Kymberly Yee of Stockton, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
