He had 2 brothers, the late Clyde Hughes and one living Clarence Hughes of Caretta, WV. He had 4 sisters, the late Bell Perkins and the late Mae Muncy and 2 living sisters..Liz Smith of Delaware and Birdie Sparks of Newhall, WV.

He was married to Georgia Faye Hagerman Hughes of War, WV. They had 6 children together..Alvin Hughes, Ellen Mae Hughes Webb, and Deborah Hughes. The late Franklin D. Hughes, Jr., the late Gary Allan Hughes and the late Regina Hughes.

He had 5 grandchildren. Rebecca Addair, Jennifer Blakley, Ramona Baker, Ralph Stacy, Jr., and Bethel Baker. He had 4 great-grandchildren. Austin Hicks, Cody Blakley, Brianna Blakley and Robert Baker.

He worked as a Coal Miner most his life. He retired with UMWA LOCAL #6026. He loved old cars, fishing and boats. He loved his family and friends.
