Franklin was my very first mentor in my career at
Queen Elizabeth Hospital between 1985 and 1991. Franklin had taught me thoroughly in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Franklin had set a very high standard for himself especially in the operation theatre. He was a man of integrity and a meticulous surgeon who had provided important services to the general public. Franklin always emphasised the phrase that the first principle in surgery was: " Do no harm ", which I had learnt and later on taught my medical students and surgical trainees.
During my six years of apprenticeship with Franklin, he had supported me in successfully obtaining two scholarships for post-graduate surgical training and application for a place to read medicine in the UK.
Some people might think that Franklin was just a strict and serious clinician, in fact, he was very athletic, knowledgeable,adventurous and travelled widely throughout the world. He had balanced his work life and family life really well.
It is an honour to have been one of Franklin's students and friends.
