I am really sadden by the loss of your dad Salome! I remember all the wonderful memories of coming to your house in Dagenham and meeting your parents and your dad was ever the charmer, he always had a story to two to tell and was always instilling words of wisdom in us. I also remember your dad reading over my personal statement during my university application and making changes and telling me not to selling my too short! Most of all my memories of your dad was on NYE 2008, I came to your house early as we had planned to go out for NYE celebrations later that evening. However we got caught up in you dad's stories and we both fell asleep, we missed the New year's count down and ended up staying indoors without going out (haha) your dad certainly had a way with words that kept you both amused, empowered and entertained.

He will be greatly missed and I pray his soul continues to rest in the bossom of the lord.

My deepest condolences to your entire family.

Fred was funny, (he’s probably cracking jokes in heaven now), witty, loves to argue, friendly and very humble. The darling and husband of our dear cousin Jumoke. We’ve known him for over 40years and never a dull moment. You came, lived and left. May the Lord comfort and uphold the entire family at this challenging time. RIP

Fredo-C, it was nothing but a total disbelief and sudden shock when I received the news of your passing. Well, The Almighty and Unquestionable God, knows best; He gives and takes as He pleases.

Thursday 8 July 2021 was really a sad day for all who knew Frederick Oluseyi COKER; his passing was one too much to bear. There is no doubt that he was a people's man; jovial, sociable and never a dull moment with him. He would always argue his point to the end, until it's well proven. He will forever be missed; I pray he finds rest and everlasting peace in the bossom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fred, continue to sleep the good sleep in the watchful eyes of The Almighty God. Goodnight (Adieu)!

May the Lord God comfort his family and friends he left behind; Amen!

The Lord giveth, and taketh in His time. The Lardner’s and Cokers grew up together in Alagomeji, Yaba. Fred was particularly close to my cousin Tunji, in those days. As it was in those days, it was in and out of each other’s homes. Fred’s mum was a typical Saro lady and that being our origin also made her kindred with our parents. Little did we know that we would later become in-laws!!! Even more so, that our daughters would become the best of friends.
Witty, bubbly and ebullient. Fred, you will be missed so much, but our consolation is that you are free of pain now. and that you rest with Our Lord. Rest on brother.
We pray that the Lord abides with and strengthens your loved ones, especially your dear wife. Jummy, your children, Seyi, Morenike and Fope and your grandchildren.

It is with very heavy heart that I write these words of tribute for my truly bosom friend and brother. I find it very difficult to think that you are no more around, I can't take it in and am still in a state of disbelief.
I will forever cherish your brotherly love and the joy you gave me , it is really unexplainable.
Goodnight "Freddie C " I will forever remember your smiling face.

Boda mi, your passing was so sudden and I am still in utter shock and disbelief. Why would I forget the very first time I met you at Pedro when you came to visit sister all those years ago? Why would I forget the major impact you have in my career path? Why would I forget all those periods in my teenage years when you pass on your barely worn clothes, shoes, shirts and suits and the occasional cash gifts? Thank you for the very many fond memories I am blessed to have shared with you. I particularly remember those summer days in the park when we played football with family, friends and the drink session plus playful chats and comments that follow afterwards. Success in my WAEC exams is mainly the consequence of your tutelage and mentorship for which I am eternally grateful. You even told me off for scoring A2 instead of A1 in Economics. As it is with me, your sudden departure must have left gaping holes in many people’s life to whom you were associated. Thank you for sharing those wonderful memories which I will continue to cherish to the end. Rest in peace, boda mi. Olusola Ogunbayo (UK).

Uncle Fred,

It aches my heart to know and have to accept that I won't see you again in person, but I know your spirit will continue to be and always be in us and the life of every social gathering/party going forward. I have nothing but joyful and happy memories of you, but it reassures me knowing that you are now pain-free and at rest with the most high.

You will be forever loved and missed, and truly have left a mark in all of our hearts. May you your soul continue to rest in the most perfect peace. xxx

We have nothing but pleasant memories of you, Uncle Freddie. Christmas holidays' filled with fun and laughter, summers and other visits, we will always cherish the time you spent with us and your positive influence on us. When you would sit down and watch cartoons with us, take us bowling and to arcades. You would always call us on our birthdays and check up on us often. We remember the times you taught us piano when we were kids and we have been playing it ever since. We appreciate all the love and care you've shown us. We will miss you, Uncle.

Fred, your passing on to glory left me with sadness and pain. I still can't believe you have left us so soon. Only now left with those good memories of your laughter, your James Brown dance, the lovely sociable times spent with our group, your intelligent arguments and discussions and the nickname you always call me (Abankijo). You were truly a good friend. I pray that the Almighty God will wipe away all tears from the eyes of Jumoke, your children, grandchildren and loved ones.
May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace .

Freddie my egbon and great friend. You saw more than you said. You were wiser than you carried yourself. You were stronger than most would have ever guessed. You had sourced life out quite a long time ago, but you kept abiding with us novices. You were deep, yet unassuming. I really liked your matter of fact approach to life. You were a really dear friend and your loyalty was cast iron. Men like you are rare! You exemplified good upbringing, courtesy, manners and forthrightness. Somehow, you were ahead of all of us, but you kept pacing yourself so we could catch up. What a joy to have had the privilege of knowing and sharing this planet with you. I know you have made it to THE DESTINATION! You are home with the Lord and now, you can rest knowing you lived well. I can only celebrate you my brother. You lived very well!!! We will keep loving Jummy and the children and grand children. Your legacy is secure. So Adieu, one I can only call a SAGE!

Dear Fred, you were so full of life and certainly could not be missed in a party especially on the dance floor. Your moves were one of a kind. You've always been so kind and considerate in your manner. What can I say about our many scrabble nights. I will certainly miss the vibrant atmosphere during our matches. I know you are now resting in the Lord where there is no more pain. Rest in peace until we meet again. Yetunde Opaleke

Tribute to Brother Fred (Fredidonald)

Brother Fred was more than a brother to me. He was also my mentor and my friend. We both had many common interests. Church, organ, classical, and choral music. He was passionate about music, was a member of the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina, Lagos many years ago. He was conversant with the great organists such as T.K.E Phillips, O. O Phillips, Fela Sowande, Kayode Oni and many others, all of blessed memory. I was a member of St Jude’s Church (now Cathedral of St Jude’s Ebute Metta, Lagos) until 1995 when I was appointed Assistant Organist and Choirmaster of Our Saviour’s Church TBS Lagos. We would both sing hymns, chants, marvel at the sound of the pipe organ and the choral renditions etc. He loved Virgil Fox, the late organist of high repute, and we would both watch in admiration, videos of him displaying his skills, especially his variation on the hymn, ‘’O God our help in ages past’’. Bro Fred introduced my family and I to Jazz. He taught my kids how to play some jazz notes on the piano and enjoyed doing so. Hi jazz skills on the piano were phenomenal. We both visited Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral several times while I was on holiday and it was such a rewarding experience to listen to the organ, choir, choral singing etc.

He had a special relationship with my children, loved them so dearly and always engaged them on leisure & serious activities such as table soccer, football, career discussions etc when we come to London on summer holidays. He was so interested in their wellbeing and ready to go to all extent to ensure they (we) all had fun while on holidays. He would always inquire about our plans daily, volunteer to take us to various places and events. Despite coming over with my entire family to stay for 2 /3 weeks, bro Fred was never inconvenienced, even when my children were still quite young. In summary he always ensured we had a great time. We shall all miss him. His love, perseverance, humility, candour, commitment, zeal etc. Summer holidays in London will not be the same again. Brother Fred & I would discuss business, career, everything under the sun. I was always excited to engage him in various discussions, took advice from him on various matters also. He was a socialite, always jovial, lively and would light up any party/event with ‘’jist’, ‘’faboos’’, general discussions on burning issues in Nigeria and globally.

I commensurate with by egbon, sister Jumoke (Jummy), Seyi, Morenike, Fope, and the entire family. It’s sad and depressing to learn brother Fred has gone to be with the Lord just 5 years after our Mum (Mrs G.O Adesola) joined the saints triumphant. He added full value to my life, and the last discussion we had was that he and sister Jumoke were planning to visit us in Dubai once the covid situation is over. A major regret I have is not being able to see him before he passed on, and my inability to attend the funeral activities physically due to covid restrictions, travel bans, and inability to apply/obtain a visa. I’m however just a bit consoled that I will participate remotely, thanks to technology.

Rest in peace brother Fred. I know you’re resting in Heaven and singing with the heavenly choirs. Thoughts of you will always fill my heart. I’m missing you so dearly. Sincere condolences from Chinwe, Damilola (Damo), EbunOluwa and IfeOluwa.

Love, Akinwale Adesola

The last time I saw and interacted with Freddie was in November 2019 when he showed up at my late mother's funeral reception. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him and immediately I regressed to when we were mischievous little runts mostly playing soccer and practicing our King fu moves in our backyards in Alagomeji. It was a wonderful reunion between life long friends. The last time I spoke with him was about two months ago. I was prompted by Daco (Dr, Damola Dacosta) during our usual chit-chats lying on his dental chair awaiting a 'wonderful' root canal procedure. He told me that Freddie was feeling poorly and that his health had taken a downward turn. I soon after called Fred and in his voice I could sense the weight of his existential challenge, but typical Fred he was soon laughing and carrying on like old times. However, when I pressed further to find out how he was coping with his situation, her sagely replied 'Tunji..you know..Dis life eh..Na so e be' I still treasure the depth of meaning of this simple statement as I am forced to contemplate the inevitability my own mortality. In a friendship that has survived over some fifty years the vagaries of time, space and the general messiness of life unfolding, I hold Fred's Koan as the new signpost of my remaining life. What exactly did he mean- a faith bound acceptance of life and the inevitability of death, or a declarative statement to understand and master our respective lives as is, not necessarily as we want it to be, but with the power of our own agency that understands the consequences of every action we take. Against the backdrop of the casualties of COVID 19 and the many friends we have lost, I feel fortunate that Fred has left me with a gift that transcends his transition. I pray the God continues to keep, protect and provide for Jumoke and their three children who all can take comfort in the memories of this unassuming but truly remarkable man who lived his life with profound love, generosity of spirit, music, laughter and purpose. Freddie.. Well...Na so e be! Rest in love and peace my brother!

Uncle Fred, I can’t believe you’re gone. You were such a funny, loving uncle . You were the first person to teach me how to play the piano, and till this day I can still remember the exact song you taught me. You also taught me how to play table soccer, and would take me and my siblings to the parks in London. I will miss your bright smile that made our day; it's hard to believe that you are no more amongst us. I pray that your soul rests in peace. You were a great person, and a blessing to many people. You will forever be missed. Our hearts are heavy for losing someone so special, but as we mourn your death, we also celebrate your life. The wonderful moments you shared with us will forever be remembered. Rest in peace up in heaven!

Uncle Fred, the only uncle that could match my energy. I was lost for words to hear you passed. You were always a great uncle to my siblings and me, almost like a second father. I remember when you used to come over and show me all the latest jazz hits on your iPod. I also miss when you taught me how to play jazz on the piano and table soccer whenever we visited London. One thing that always stood was how caring and attentive you were to me from a very young age. I wish we had more time together, but I know God has called you back home. May your soul rest in perfect peace Uncle. You will be forever missed.

Uncle Fred, I'd be lying if i said i knew what to write or how to feel. I wish we had more time. You were a great man, a kind uncle filled with wisdom and really loving. I remember the first summer my siblings and i spent in the UK. You opened up your home to us and you were really patient and caring to us. You fought bravely, loved deeply and lived with integrity. I find peace in the fact that you knew and loved Jesus and we have hope in that. I pray for comfort for your family and our loved ones in this time. I cant wait to see you again, by Gods grace.

I still cannot believe Bro Fred is gone. Bro Fred and my Sister (Sister Jumoke) were my guardian in the UK while I was doing my A levels. During the holidays I would stay with them. Bro Fred was very caring and protective of me. Whenever there was an argument between my sister and I, Bro Fred would always be on my side. He took me like his sister. Always checking up on my welfare. I thank God for the privilege of knowing you all this 39 years. Your memories will always be in our hearts. The only consolation I have is that you are resting in the bosom of our Lord. Bro Fred, you will be greatly MISSED. We love you but Jesus Loves you more. May God Almighty give Sister Jumoke, Seyi, Morenike, Fope, Kira, Olivia, Siblings, the entire Coker and Adesola family the fortitude to bear this great loss, and may He comfort us all, Amen. Rest on Bro Fred till me meet to part no more.
