Frederick G. Michaelis

Frederick, 71, of Howell, NJ passed away on Sunday February 14.

Mr. Michaelis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lee (Eileen), and two children: Erin and Bill. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Kaleb, Emily, and William.

Fred was a longtime resident of Great Kills. As a young man his love of flying lead him to obtain his pilots license before his driver’s license. He joined the Army in 1969. Fred was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War flying Hueys, earning The Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal. After his Military service he was a private Helicopter Pilot for Pan Am and KHovnanian.

Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed family time watching movies and taking trips to Disney. He also loved building Legos, swimming and reading with his grandkids.

He was a kind and generous man. He always enjoyed eating a slice of Denino's pizza, walking in Turkey Swamp Park & Tai Chi. He loved listening to Josh Groban and reading. The love of reading he passed on to his grandchildren.

Military funeral services will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday on February 23rd at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers or gifts donations in Fred’s name may be made to Disabled American Veterans at https://www.dav.org/
