Tribute for My Dear Sister Yemisi

I never imagined that I can say a tribute in your memory, it felt like a strange thing to do and it sure is. The thought of me saying a tribute to you my own sister Yemisi proved an enormous challenge which I never envisaged doing and certainly not at this time. However, the sorrow in my heart can never be greater than the recognition and appreciation for the life that you were and lived including the legacies you left behind.
In remembering you, I’m blessed to call you sister, I also call you friend. A sister is someone who loves you from the heart, and you did love from the heart.
No matter how much we argued we cannot be drawn apart and always made up for the greater good.
You are a joy that cannot be taken away, and I will forever be grateful for being part of my life as a big sister.
Never thought I’d lose you, more so in a circumstance like this, but here I am, standing alone unexpectedly without my big sister, to share thoughts with and lean on for advice. Since you’ve been gone a lot has happened including Mama following you the month after. The Covid 19 pandemic has ravaged our land preventing us to mourn your demise by commune and leaning on each other. It is said to be the new norm but it was a callous one for me as I was unable to see you physically and say a proper goodnight. It is well.
It has been very tough without you, I go crazy at times but still come back to reality, I’m trying to hold on, to keep strong,
But it just doesn’t feel right. Oh God! Why? To say you are missed is an understatement as the gap you left is still very evident. You had your calming touch of a woman, wife, mother and sister that help balm sore heart.
I’m waiting here, with arms wide open, and Tears running down my face,
Ready for your return, Even if it takes forever,
My sister…Olufunmilayo Oluwayemisi this was not in our conversation or agreement….. I just can’t find it anywhere that you were to leave us in this way and at this time.
But who am I to argue or fight back where God is the supreme master in charge. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills too hard to climb and as the ultimate decision maker……..
He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be Thine”
It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
My darling sister, it’s a year now since you went sleep in the bosom of the almighty God. It’s hard to say Goodbye and Goodnight but I have to accept that we all have the debt of death to pay however long it takes and thankfully you are Resting in Peace Perpetual with our Lord.
Continue to Sleep well….. Sun Re O…. O digba…. O digbere….. O darinako…… O doju ala…… Sun Re O
