Merry Christmas my sweet Daddy! It wasn't the same without you , and we missed your annual toast to the chef at dinner. It was a true White Christmas this year...beautiful, peaceful...and I hope you're surrounded by beauty and serenity where you are too. We love you always!

Happy Father's Day Dear Daddy! We miss you with all our hearts and wish you were here with us to enjoy this beautiful, sunny summer day. As we told you every year, you were the best father we could have wished for and we are forever grateful for your love, care, and support throughout our lives. We think of you and the lessons you taught us daily. We miss your kind smile and eyes. We hope to see you again someday but know you're watching over us as you always have. We love you always.

We met Fulton as Chung Yen's husband and the kind mentor and role model for our son. At the time, we were developing resources to help parents adopting orphan girls from China to learn some Mandarin in hopes that it would help them connect with their daughters. Fulton generously spent countless hours of work producing beautiful calligraphy to help the parents learn to write and read a bit of Chinese as well. He painstakingly broke down each of the characters into their individual strokes to show how they were written.

I imagine that the kindness and compassion Fulton expressed through his calligraphy helped to make it a bit easier for the adopted girls as they began their new lives in the US, perhaps also helping them to remain connected to their culture as well. Fulton's unassuming generosity made the world a better place in so many ways. He was a very good man.

I first met Fulton at Cathy's and Jeff's wedding. He was so kind and welcoming from the start. He immediately made me feel at ease, reminding Jeff's dad and me, with a big, warm smile and handshakes, that we were all now family.
Months later when we traveled to visit our son and new daughter, the Chens invited us to dinner at a restaurant in Seattle. We had such a great time. Being with him felt so easy and natural. I remember his filling and refilling my wine glass, and we cheered and toasted to our new family, later taking a walk through Gas Works park and parting with the promise of future meetings.
I feel very fortunate to have met and spent those times with him and the people that he loved so dearly. And i am forever grateful that my son was loved and welcomed by such a lovely man.

In Fall 1982 my wife Lee went to a church english class in Kingsville, TX and met Chung-Yen. not long they became good friend. hence I (was a graduate student in Texas A&M Kingsville University) had chance to meet/know Professor Chen. We went to his house in Kingsville several time. in next 13 years they moved to Houston, NC, SC, and finally settled down in Seattle area. after each move, we were invited to his house.
Professor Chen was respectful scholar and real english-style gentleman, soft-spoken, enjoyed life. he was a happy person and often smiled. he liked to practice calligraphy. he always poured kentucky burnbon with sprite for me when we were at Chen's house. In 2014 Chen family took us and my sister family to Mount Rainier and had good time.
He will be missed forever in our hearts.

I met Fu Tung through his wife Chun Yen. He was a very nice man and I feel so easy to be around with. He was always curious and observant. I got his last email on May 22, and I had a draft in my email to be sent!!! It was shocking to see that the cancer was so invasive!!! To me, he was like an older brother! That’s how I had always been calling him “ Fu Tung 大哥”. Hey, older brother, you had hidden your age by 15 years at least! Good for you! Wish you peace! You have a wonderful family to carry your legacy! ❤️❤️❤️

I met Fulton through my best friend, Cindy, when I was just a kid. I always knew him to be a great father to his daughters and a devoted husband to his wife. I witnessed this, not only in the way he treated his loved ones but also in the way that Cindy and Cathy live on as strong, successful and such caring women. His dedication to support and encourage his family’s dreams is what showed me the quality father he was. I understand he was so much more than just a great family man. He was an accomplished, happy individual who lived with no regrets. Fulton passed on those valuable qualities and so much more to his daughters and I know they’ll do the same with his grandchildren. After reading his online memorial it was no surprise to see that Fulton has touched many lives and is cherished for his honest and kind character. I will forever hold on to the memories that I have of him. I can still hear the gentle way he said my name and his kind smile that he shared with me whenever I saw him. He would always strike up a conversation with me whenever I would see him and always made me feel welcome. I will miss him and his cheerful spirit that was impossible not to love.

I was privileged to meet Fu Tong after he had retired and his family had moved to Port Orchard. When our son was a toddler, Chung Yen took care of him in their home several times a week. During that time, Fu Tong was an incredible role model for our young son. He was gentle and unassuming, taking great pleasure in his calligraphy practice and other intellectual pursuits. He was also quick to smile and engage, and extremely generous in his willingness to open up his home to a little one when his own children were almost grown. Fu Tong, along with his loving wife and daughters, created a home filled with kindness and love. I will remember him with great fondness and admiration.

I am very fortunate to have been the closest friend of Fu Tong’s. We spent four years together in the now Hong Kong Chinese University- majoring in economics, living in the same dormitory, eating the same food and helping each other in every possible way. Then, we worked together at Union Press for six years until he left for America to further his studies. Ironically, we were so world apart in our personalities: Fu Tong was very studious, methodical, organized, soft-spoken and kind. Not only was he a accomplished scholar with a Ph.D and author of a well written book, he was also a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had raised a beautiful family. On the contrary, I have been a very free spirited, casual and out going individual. Regardless, we kept and enjoyed our long friendship until he left us suddenly and quietly. I know we will all miss him. But, somewhere deep in my heart, I feel we all will meet again too. Love, Robert Huey-Chang Hsi
