ForeverMissed

Our dear Gabriel was with us for only a short time here on earth, but he will forever be with us in our hearts…

We were more than overjoyed when we discovered we were expecting a baby – our first child…even more wonderful, Cheryl found out right before Andy’s birthday and gave him baby-related birthday gifts to surprise him with the news. The excitement of being parents was almost overwhelming. We already saw ourselves as “Mom” and “Dad,” preparing for our little one – we just had to wait to “officially” meet him or her.

The first ultrasound at 8 weeks went perfectly and we cried happy tears at the sight of our little one’s heartbeat. However, after a standard blood test near the end of the first trimester, we were told our baby had Trisomy 18 – a rare condition that causes numerous developmental abnormalities. We learned 90 percent of affected children don't live to their first birthday, and those who do have immense struggles.

Because he’s our son, we loved him no matter what, and couldn’t imagine doing anything less. We gave him a name - Gabriel (after the biblical angel) Leroy (after Cheryl's grandfather). Unfortunately, just days after we learned of his affliction, an ultrasound revealed that little Gabriel’s heart had stopped beating when he was 12 weeks and 2 days young. The overwhelming excitement quickly turned into a chronic overwhelming sorrow.

We trust he is with other loved ones that have passed on, and is being cared for by his heavenly Father. Although he was never “born,” he did exist here on earth and we cannot wait until we hold him in heaven. Gabriel cannot be replaced. He had a life. He had a heartbeat. And he’ll always have our hearts. We will never forget our first child. This website, we hope, brings awareness to Trisomy 18 (www.trisomy18.org) and pays tribute to the incredible impact Gabriel Leroy had – and continues to have – on our lives.

No matter how long you know your child, it only takes a moment to love them forever.

Thank you for your love and support!

Dear Gabriel,
I have enjoyed loving on your little brother, Camden. He is happy and healthy and growing fast. Your mom and Dad are wonderful parents to Camden. And while they are pouring out their love on your little brother, they are remembering you always. I visited the Children’s Garden at their church where they dedicated a stone in your memory. We will always remember you too and look forward to meeting you one day in Heaven.

Dear Cheryl and Andy, I know without a doubt that Gabriel is with our Lord and Savior in heaven. I pray that I will be able to hold him when I get there and when I see you all I will let you know what a wonderful person he is. May God bless you in the wonderful life God has in store for you now and in future.

In the Arms of Jesus (poem)

March 20, 2015

Daddy, please don’t look so sad. Mommy, please don’t cry.
'Cause I am in the arms of Jesus and he sings me lullabies.

Please try not to question God, Don’t think he is unkind.
Don’t think He sent me to you, and then He changed his mind.

You see I am a special child, and I’m needed up above.
I’m the special gift you gave Him, the product of your love.

I’ll always be there with you, so watch the sky at night.
Find the brightest star that’s gleaming, it’s my halo’s brilliant light.

You’ll see me in the morning frost that mists your window pane.
That’s me in the summer showers, I’ll be dancing in the rain.

When you feel a little breeze from a gentle wind that blows,
That’s me. I’ll be there, planting a kiss on your nose.

When you see a child playing and your heart feels a little tug;
That’s me, I’ll be there, giving your heart a hug.

So Daddy, please, don’t look so sad, Mommy don’t you cry.
I’m in the arms of Jesus now and He sings me lullabies.

An Angel's Poem

March 20, 2015

Not a day goes by that we don't think of you.
We pray to God to take care of you.

We wonder how it would be,
If you could have stayed here with us.

We long to see your beautiful face,
And let you feel the warmness of our embrace.

We love you with all our heart, and even though we're apart,
Please know that you'll always be in mommy and daddy's heart!

What Makes a Mother (poem)

March 20, 2015

I thought of you and closed my eyes and prayed to God today. I asked, “What makes a Mother”? And I know I heard Him say, A Mother has a baby, This we know is true. But, God, can you be a Mother when your baby's not with you?

"Yes you can!", He replied with confidence in His voice, "I give many women babies, when they leave is not their choice. Some I send for a lifetime and others for a day. And some I send to feel your womb but there's no need to stay."

I just don't understand this God, I want my baby here. He took a breath, and cleared His throat, and then I saw a tear. I wish I could show you what your child is doing here.

If you could see your child smile with other children and say, "We go to earth to learn our lessons of love and life and fear, but my Mommy loved me oh so much I got to come straight here!”

"I feel so lucky to have a Mom who had so much love for me, I learned my lesson very quick, my Mommy set me free. I miss my Mommy oh so much but I visit her each day when she goes to sleep on her pillow's where I lay. I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek and whisper in her ear, 'Mommy don't be sad today I'm your baby and I'm here.'"

So you see my dear sweet one, your child is okay. Your baby is here in My home and this is where he'll stay. He'll wait for you with Me until your lesson is through. And on that day that you come home he'll be at the gates for you.

So now you see what makes a Mother. It's the feeling in your heart. It's the love you had so much of right from the very start. Though some on earth may not realize that you are a Mother until their time is done. They'll be up here with me one day and know you're the best one.
