Dad and his love of Christmas

February 28, 2021
December 25th was always a special day for dad. Christmas meant the world to him as many in my family can attest to that. He always made sure that our Christmas was enjoyable and special. On one special Christmas he dressed us all up to visit my sister Ana Torres godfather and it was an enjoyable one that I still remember. I remember as a child how he took us all to Puerto Rico for the  Christmas holiday back in 1975. I remember how him members of his family would go from house to house singing Christmas songs while playing their guitars until the person of the house opened the door and from their it was party time. They where called parrandas. I remember also how the pig was roasted plenty of food was  served lots of dancing celebrating everyone was having a great time. He also enjoyed New Years as well as three kings day where in Puerto Rican culture that is officially the last day of the holiday season. Every three kings day or a few days after if it was on a weekday there would be another feast. He would prepare the turkey the roast pork and they're where delicious. My nephew Jason Lewis  would say he wasn't satisfied until he ate his grandfather's Turkey. Sadly this past holiday season was our first one without him. It definitely didn't feel the same. I feel as if a part of what we did for the holidays died with him. :( . I hope I'm wrong about that. Thank u dad for the wonderful holiday memories u left for us to remember you always.  The holidays will never be the same without u :(

Pop and Wrestling

October 6, 2017

As I watched an old Saturday Night's Main Event the only thing I could remember was Pop making jokes about so many of the matches we used to watch at the time. He wasn't a fan, and sometimes complained about how we wasted our time watching it, but there were many times he made that so funny with his comments. He had jokes for some of the angles like once when a scrub wrestler names Jesse James was wrestling and he asked where was Buffalo Bill? Lol  Another time when the silly Glow Wrestling was on and one fo the women wrestlers Americana I believe it was, was hyptonized by a bone. He went on to say that he always said the men wrestling was the stupidest thing he ever saw but that women had them beat. As he put it "Las mujeres son las campeonas de las estupideces lol. He had us laughing so much. Once he said que estupide it was for Randy Savage to come out to the graduation theme lol. There are many more stories, all funny as Pop had a great sense of humor at times and would poke fun at anything whether he liked it or not. Some of these memories help me laugh on days I think of him missing him.  Thank you for still making me laugh with your funny stories and jokes Papi. I'll miss them always, but will always, treasure them too.

Christmas with dad.

January 8, 2017

Christmas meant the world to dad. When he lived in Puerto Rico he would get together with family members and do parrandas in which they go to households and sing Christmas songs. With mom and us kids he made sure that Christmas was a special occasion. One Christmas I remember was when he got us all dressed took the train and we went to my sisters Godfathers house and we all had fun. He surprised me with gifts that I thought I wouldn't get. The food him and mom made for the holidays was just amazing especially when he made pernil or the lechón which was one of his other traditions. He would go to the butcher shop and get a whole pig to cook.one half for Christmas and the other was for three kings day which is called little Christmas. He also loved decorating the Christmas tree. He would spend all day looking for the right bulbs in the Christmas lights to light up and wouldn't stop until he did.  The holidays will never be the same without him. I want to take the moment to tell dad thank u for making the holidays special for me and for the rest of the family. I love u and missed u very much this holiday season. :(

Thanksgiving with Dad.

November 25, 2016

Where do I begin when it  comes to my dad? So many things can be talked about but since it's Thanksgiving I want to mention about his love for the Thanksgiving holiday. He was the one who always made the Turkey. Some of us would wait the entire year in anticipation of tasting the Thanksgiving Turkey of his. It was that good. My nephew Jason always said  one of the main reasons he looked forward to Thanksgiving was for his turkey. Dad always cherished the time he spent with his family on days like Thanksgiving. It meant the world to him. It gave him pleasure and happiness to do this for the family he loved so much.  Today is the family's first Thanksgiving without him  needless to say his presence was missed so much.  the family will do all it can to keep his traditions and legacy alive especially on special days like Thanksgiving. Thank you dad for making the holidays special and with many memories. We will never forget the beautiful memories and we love u so much.
