I'm so touched by all the tributes to my brother Gary , We had planned to watch the Okla vs Tx game today and I'm glad to say Okla won, but it's a shallow victory without my brother here. I miss him so very much but each day I try to remember how special he was. In closing , I thank all of you for celebrating my brother and God bless you

We've known Gary for almost 30 years... first met when starting to do some painting at our house. We had an instant bond through football and in particular, at that time, by being avid Oakland Raider fans! Then when we got our Carolina Panthers, we had that in common as well. Of course our friendship was a lot deeper than football and paint and we spoke many times through the week. Before the store took him to Gastonia, there were many lunchtime chats over Wendy's frosties. We'll always remember the last tailgate when many friends gathered together to celebrate our friend. Even after he left for California, our tailgates included a call to Gary and the passing of the phone among friends. We couldn't believe that we had that Sunday phone call and then, too soon, we learned he was "gone.' Not to be forgotten though, we shall think of him fondly and often. "L8r Raider" - Tom and Sandy Faris

Gary was an amazing person. Carolina Panthers tailgates will not be the same without him, but he will be with us in spirit. He was a boost of energy every Sunday morning - Go Panthers! Go Raiders! And Go Sooners for you! Thank you for everything! We love you and will not miss you because you will be right here with us!

Gary was a good friend of mine. We were neighbors for 16 years and had a lot of conversation's over the fence. Gary was independent, but I would help him out if he needed it. I sold Gary a go cart, probably 10 or 12 years ago. I remember his backyard becoming a dust bowl when he would turn laps, he would lean into the turns and lean forward on the straight aways (all 30' of it), enjoyed watching him. Gary was also my Home Land Security when I was on vacation. I would tell him when I would be leaving, he always said "don't worry about your place, I got". Great guy, and will truly be missed.....!

A bright light went to Heaven on October 6 and it was way too soon! Gary was a gentle soul who showed us how to live and in the end showed us how to die. Gary was my cousin and my friend. Dick and I love you Gary and will miss you until we meet again!

Gary, you left us so quickly... God must have been in quite a hurry to bring you home. You were such a sweet and gentle spirit in this world. I'm sure Aunt Betty &Uncle Frank, Nana & Pop, Mom & Dad and all of Heaven are rejoicing. I'm sorry we didn't spend more time together, but I'll see you again, dear cousin. Love you ---

Gary was a wonderful brother in law. I loved his kind and gentle personality. I enjoyed his wry sense of humor. Gary never had an unkind word to say about anybody. I know he is enjoying sports with Frank and Betty in heaven. Love you Gary!

why football?

October 9, 2014

OK, Frank you may contest this story but it is veryvivid in my memory.

I remember visiting your family on 8th street in Upland shortly after Gary was born. He may have been 2 months oldso I was like 8 and you- Frank were like 14.

Here is what happened.  You and a friend were cuttin' up like you used to do and decided to play with the new baby, Gary.  You picked him up and tossed him across the room like he was a football.  I couldn't believe my eyes!

Luckily your equally crazy friend made a great catch and ran for the 6 points without a hitch.  Now we all know why Gary loved his football-because he used to be one!

Peace and Love to Gary and all his friends and family.

Cousin Steve
