Her Life
March 24, 2016

Mrs. Gensie Lou Thomas, the daughter of the late Aubrey Presley and  Mollie Morgan was born June 30, 1914 in LaFayette, Chambers  County, AL. On Saturday, March 19, 2016, God called her home and  her crown was waiting with him saying “Well done good and faithful  servant.”

“Mrs. Gent” as she was affectionally known by most, at an early age  accepted Christ as her Lord and savior and united with the Antioch
Baptist Church, LaFayette, AL. After her moving to Lanett, AL she united with the Evening Spring Baptist Church, where she was one of  its founders. "Mrs. Gent" served faithfully on the Usher Board,  Kitchen Committee and was a devoted member of the missionary  society.

Gensie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Willie Frank Thomas and into
this union seven children were born.

“Mrs. Gent” was employed with Springwood School for several years.
She later retired from the Lanett Senior Center, Lanett, AL. She loved
grooming her flowers and stayed busy working in her small garden. Her
flowers and garden was her pride of joy. She was known throughout
the Valley for great cooking and especially her homemade Caramel and
Chocolate Cakes.

Gensie was very proud of her age and would tell everyone the date and
year she was born. She would often say “I am 99 trying to make it to
100.” She was truly blessed to have lived on this Godly earth for 101
years.

On May 4, 2014, the late Mayor Oscar Crawley presented Mrs. Thomas “A Proclamation to the City of Lanett, AL” at her Centennial Celebration. She was later presented a Key to the City of Lanett, AL by Mayor Kyle McCoy.
