This webpage is a celebration of the life of George J. Beaudet. Here, we hope that those who knew him can share in their memories, thoughts, stories, and expressions of condolence. This page lets you leave a tribute message, but there are many other ways to share by using the Life, Gallery, and Stories tabs. Please fill this site with your memories of George.

George leaves behind his beloved wife of 32 years, Bridget; six children, Don, Bob, Mary, Betsy, Kate, and Richard (deceased); two stepsons, Wilde (deceased) and Brock; 14 grandchildren; brother of Paul, Richard (both deceased), Terri (Fogarty), and Charles; and many close relatives and friends. Born in Massachusetts and raised in Wisconsin, the son of George and Irene, George's adventurous spirit led him to live in numerous places across the United States, following his dreams and wanderlust.

As a boy, George showed early signs of entrepreneurism that would later chart the course of his life. He followed the typical script for a while--proudly serving in the military and starting a family with a 9 to 5 job--but George preferred to write his own script. When George was profiled in a local newspaper by Alastair Baker, his entrepreneurial spirit was summed up this way: "He simply has always been with the trend, looking ahead before the sun has even had a chance to bed down." To that end, George worked in radio, managed bands, put on stage productions, established a T-shirt design and production shop, worked in ad sales and air travel sales, and launched an LED lightbulb factory! While George lived and breathed whatever business he was hatching, his biggest motivation was the friends he made. George's generosity and infectious laugh were known by all.

We hope that this site provides an opportunity for those of you who knew George, in whatever capacity, to share in your thoughts and expressions of condolence, but also to celebrate and remember George's life. Please feel free to share images, stories, videos, or anything else that makes you think of the wonderful person that George was and the life that he lived.

Zoom funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 11am EST. If you're interested in viewing, please email George's daughter, Mary at mbonamer-at-gmail-dot-com and a link will be sent. We will hold a memorial celebration of his life at a later date.

Jorge.
I think of you every day. We had many laughs, adventures and good times.
Our friendship started with a chance meeting on a train, and lasted for decades. You never failed to turn a bad day into a good one. You introduced me to a total stranger who became a life long friend. You were the "six degrees of separation" person who had connections all over the world; and your ebullient spirit lives on in the memories of all those drawn into your circle. I miss you Jorge.

There are not enough words to put together, to say how much of an influence George had on me. He was a remarkable person and I envied how much he enjoyed every aspect of life, almost as if he had the full understanding of life and how you were supposed to live it. I will never forget him, he will always be in my heart. I love you George and Bridget

George and I met when I was a 21 year old DJ at WZMF in Menomonee Falls. For over 50 years our lives have been weaved together with too many adventures to write about. Milwaukee, St. Louis, Cleveland, Portland, California, Montana, Paris and and countless places in between, worked and played together. George influenced my life in so many ways, I think of Jorge often, I miss him daily.
Love you George.

I remember the first day I met George Beaudet. Instant rapport. That was his personal superpower. When I went to work for him I was down the hall one day and heard him bellow, "God! I love this country!" Generous to a fault, funny as a professional comedian and prone to turns of phrase that never leave you. Knowing George, working with George, partying with George; this was its own kind of wealth, and the kind that mere money could never purchase. One of the great minds I've come in contact with. My deep sympathies go to you Bridget, and George's entire family. I think of George often. He had a "Love" and he spread it with the generosity of a benevolent King. Thank You George Beaudet. For everything...

Dear Bridget and Family,

Not long after I sent George a text, I was given this news. I’m beyond sorry to hear that George has passed. While I know we’ve lost some touch over the years — THANK YOU again to the both of you who took a chance on me. I always tell people, they don’t make people like Georgie anymore. Bridget — everyone knows you were his rock and apple of his eye. What a great couple you are.

So many good memories — from the Hilton Hawaiian Scrip in the Beavercreek barn to the Paris golf trip (Artie Cerqua, Greg, Dave, etc), to the Queen Mary for his 70th birthday — Georgie’s generosity and kindness were game-changing. I can hear him summoning me while leaning back in his office chair saying “Hey Benny” (strumming with his mustache) and then bursting into laughter - whoo-hoo-hoo-ya-ha-ha! He was one-of-kind...and the kind of person that made everyone smile. :)

Thank you, Georgie for being an integral part of my life story...I’m so thankful you were part of mine. Rest In Peace, in Heaven, my mentor and friend (and make sure to get 3:1 or 4:1 for me while you’re there!).

Love to Bridget and the rest of Beaudet Family from Portland and Barcelona.

We can hear his voice and laughter even now. We have so many memories with you and George... remembering our fun in Paris and and beyond!
But the best of memories are around our dinner table or in the backyard. Our family dearly loves you and George will be missed. He was a kind and generous man!
Please come to our cottage and stay as long as you want here in Red Lodge my friend Bridget.

To Bridget and all of George’s family: I am so sorry for your loss. As I said in Bridget’s card, the world will just not be quite the same without George in it! I loved working for him. I loved being his friend. He would send me messages on FB here and there asking about me and my family. He was just an all-around great person with a wonderful generosity, and I will miss him. I hold those memories with George and Bridget, including working at the Billings’ radio stations, being in my first parade, taking my first airplane ride, having lunch at The Rex, and George’s 80th birthday, very close to my heart! I am very sorry for the passing of George. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. My family and I have been connected with George for a very long time. Any encounter with George was exciting and one never knew what craziness might take place. My wife, Bonnie, and I have always referred to George as “Uncle George” and he would call himself “Unk”.  He was always kind and generous and the definition of the life of the party.  He had boundless energy and always had a “project” going that would make a fortune. The amazing thing was that he never seemed to slow down. The world is a much less exciting place without him.

George. Where to start. He was generous, spontaneous, unpredictable, creative, loyal and the most out-of-the-box thinker and entrepreneur I have ever known. I had me some adventures with George. And I thank him for introducing me to one my my best friends in the world, when he threw us both together in one of his merry mishap plans and we wound up in Mexico together, bonded for life. George. One of a kind. The world is a little dimmer (and not because of bad LED lights!) without him.

I first met George through a business relationship which lasted many years, and it grew into a friendship that lasted much, much longer. It was amazing to have George as a friend, since he always had such an optimistic outlook, fabulous sense of humor and a generosity streak that was one of his finest qualities. He will be missed, but he has left a treasure trove of great memories - golf in Scotland and Grenelefe, visiting us in the Caymans, enjoying fine Scotch whiskey together, his Red Lodge birthday bash and many, many more. Our thoughts and deepest condolences to Bridget and family.

Georgie would always light up the room he entered. The laughter would start shortly after.
We especially remember his birthday party on the Queen Mary. And the Gauthier family reunion at our home. George as usual covered the cost for the reunion. Such a generous man. And the life of the party.
So thankful to have been his cousin ❤️. He was always sharing watches with my father. They shared a love for time pieces.
My mother Rita, George's Aunt always spoke so fondly of George. She was only 10 years older than him, but took care of him often for her sister Irene. My Mom would remember George's energy and curiosity. She truly loved him ❤️
Our sincere condolences to all. We know how much you will all miss him❤️

George Beaudet, what a man, what a life! George loved life and was indeed generous to a fault. My first memory of George was that I was going to meet my boyfriend’s parents for the first time, I was so nervous! George made it easy for me until he insisted on giving me $200! I didn’t know what to do and Katherine finally said, “Christine just take it, he won’t let it go until you do.” George stated that he rather have people owe him, then the other way around. George loved life and insisted on people to have a good time and a sense of humor. George raised wonderful children as well, and was a proud father, father-in-law, and grandfather. I remember meeting Bridget for the first time, and seeing the delight and love they had for one another. Bridget was a great balance for George and I am delighted they had such a beautiful relationship. George was supportive when one needed it as well. He would let you know when he was proud of you, and when he wasn’t. My children were blessed with wonderful grandparents. Andrew was particularly close to his grandfather, he loved spending time with his grandfather, and just being around him and Bridget. I have so many wonderful, funny, and meaningful memories of George and know that he will always be remembered and sorely missed. What a life, what a man!!!

George was truly one of my favorite people. I only knew him for a relatively brief period of time, but I am thankful for the times I got to hang out with him. George was irreverent, friendly, iconoclastic and basically hilarious. Always the salesman, George worked me to supply Sherwin-Williams stores with a great deal on lights and was not dissuaded in the least by my insistence that we had national contracts for such things. George had a fascination with the tap water from my refrigerator, so I regularly supplied him with water bottles of water and he would call me to thank me for being so generous! George and Bridget came to our house and invited us to theirs to share drinks, break bread and share stories. These were great times that I will always treasure. Thanks for everything, George and I will look forward to our next glass of water together.

The first time I met George and Bridget I remember thinking, "we need them to move here to Cleveland"! As has been said George could lighten any room he walked into. George and Bridget were both so full of love, life, stories, etc!

A few days before he passed he called me to tell me they needed a volunteer at his rehab facility to teach and play games with the patients. I told him to sign me up! This would be great on many levels but most especially because I would get to see him more often! He told me to sneak in a steak for him when I started volunteering. Unfortunately George went into the hospital before I was able to get anything going but I appreciated his call and talking to him one last time! Cleveland will be never be the same with out you, George, but your stories will live on forever!

I had never been on an airplane. I had never been out of Wisconsin. Uncle George invited John & I to come to California to visit him & his family during spring break 1986. He picked us up from the airport in his blacked out car, drinking a beer. We got in the back seat & he handed us each a beer. I was in AWE. I had never met a man like this in my life. He treated me as if I was his niece from the first day he met me.   I have so many wonderful memories of being with Uncle George that I could fill 100 pages. I would go over to his house and sit on his floor, with Mr. Chips in my lap, to "file". I would file his papers, but I loved to just be there with him. Just to watch him answer the phone was a trip!! Their telephone number was one number different from the phone companies, but that never bothered him. He would offer the correct number to the caller & then proceed to have a 20 min conversation with them about the weather or whatever. It was incredible.
He taught me so many lessons, but most importantly he taught me how to be generous. He would absolutely give you the shirt off his back. He gave me the gift of travel and taught me over and over how to not give a shit, but just have fun. I asked him once if I was ever going to grow up and he said, " God, I hope not, I sure haven't!!" Here's to never growing up and living life like Unk.

There’s not very many people that I can say that I was lucky to know, but 100% I was lucky to know George and have been his friend.  He was generous with his kindness, he was unique and always quick to make one smile. His handmade cards were the best and his long conversations about life were impactful.  There are so many aspects of George I could go on about, but I’ll just say that he was one of a kind and I’m so thankful to have been a friend. He will be missed indeed.

George was truly a character, and I mean that in the best sense of the word. He was a friend, a foil, a boss, a mentor, but most of all he was the one and only of his kind.
We always had a laugh together because every time we spoke during the 45 years we knew each other he never once missed a chance to try and sell me a billboard, tell me his latest scheme and dream, or bring his sense of optimism and humor to my life.
I was so happy when Bob told me George was trying to get him to make sure he got some airline tickets that were owed to him two days before he passed.
That was classic George! Doing what he loved to his last days on earth.
Through good times and bad I could always count on him for a laugh whether at his expense, my expense or life in general.
He was family to me and his family was always his most important asset. While I'm extremely sad and will miss the bald headed fart (a loving and warm nickname that he wore proudly to counteract his name for Bob and me...The Bums) I love him and will never forget him or all the good times we had for all my days.

Who would have thought a phone call from George, looking to trade rooms for advertising during the 1999 Bob Hope Classic Golf tournament, would turn into a very special friendship. George was a true friend, mentor, educator, comedian, travel agent, European guide .
I have 1000 George stories they all end with a smile and laughter. He was beyond a special person. His love of his family and Bridget was beyond compare.
George never met a person he didn’t like and I’ve known George for over 35 years, during that time I’ve never heard anyone say anything negative about George.
My family traveled the world with George’s help.
They say the measure of a man is his number of friends. If you count the number of friends George has, he lived 10 mens lives.
My family is very lucky to have had George in our lives. He made it much better.

George and my father were the closest of friends throughout his life and until my father's passing in 2009. Their association started with their careers in the yellow pages and continue professionally and personally in the many adventures George often set his sights on. I also had the pleasure of knowing George through their friendship and it was an wonderful thing. George will be missed here on earth but is now reunited with his good dear friend Arthur in heaven. God Bless.

My Aunt Mary often refers to me as a "scrapper" in regards to working hard. My Grandpa was the biggest "scrapper" I know. Getting into a new industry was always on his brain, he loved work, he loved his life. He was one of the most generous individuals I know. He was the best Grandpa and made sure all of his grandkids felt loved, he knew the perfect way to love all of us differently, adapting to our needs. He took so much pride in his family and friends, always wanted to bring the two parties together. My Grandpa was not your typical Grandpa, and for that I am so thankful for. I have so many memories to hold on to of you. As I get older I see why people always compare us, and that's a huge compliment. You were so smart, so sincere, such a savy business man, I want to be just like you. I love you Gramps, I'm happy you're with some really good company. Love,
Andrew George

There are no specific words to describe how amazing my grandpa was. He was a kind soul, with a contagious laugh. A stern man with a kind smile. A mustache that will never be forgotten. His life was like a movie and i know he lived it to the fullest each and every day. Grandpa George will forever be in my heart. He will be the best man i have ever met. He may have had a sailors mouth, but he truly was, and will be an angel forever.

My deepest condolences to you Bridget and family.
I have so many wonderful memories of the times I spent in person or on the phone. I was in the hospital so the first opportunity I had after 32 days was to call George on Friday
To the last he was more concerned about me then himself.
But that was normal for this kind giving man.
The first time I met him was in his office in Oregon. He after the handshake reached in his desk and pulled out this incredible watch that to this day is on my arm.
I loved George and I survived the Coronavirus because George’s prayers were heard. Now its our turn to pray for George that he is resting in peace.
I will miss my friend George for everything he was.
Thank you Bridget for keeping us all informed.
All our love
John &. Judy

Dear Bridget and family, I heard today of George's passing. The news is traveling around Red Lodge. He has faced so many obstacles in recent years -- I hope it is comforting to you all that he now knows a peace beyond our understanding. I don't even remember how I met the two of you; most likely through Gene and Ann. I DO remember George helping out with the hospital ball many times, through donated billboard space, or fancy auction items ranging from special vintage wines to watches (always the watches with George), and even a vintage Enfield motorcycle. We never knew what he was going to pull out of his treasure chest. He did so much to help others, and I could always tell that these gestures brought him a sense of fulfillment. We love you and pray that God's love will light your path in the days ahead.

Life provided me with an opportunity to meet one of the most thoughtful, generous, ornery, and affable men this world has ever seen. George came to meet with me nearly two decades ago to seek advice for one of his businesses. I was barely a licensed attorney but he treated me with all the respect and deference owed to Perry Mason. As we sat and talked, I was taken by his willingness to listen to my advice. We spent more than an hour that afternoon getting to know each other; our families; our past; and our interests. As I walked him out to the door, he said: "I think we will get along just fine." For the next two decades, we would certainly get along just fine. I would turn to George for advice more times than I can remember. He would always call just to say "hi" or "ask about my family". We would spend time at each other's houses. We would drink martinis. We would joke until our jaws hurt. We would just enjoy each other.
A week ago, George left me a voicemail about an idea he had for my son's business. I called back....but he didn't pick up. I sent texts and emails, but no reply. I knew something was wrong. A deep sadness fell over me. I knew that my dear friend was moving on... I just wish I had one more chance thank him for all the he had done for me, for my family and for all that he had touched.
I WILL MISS YOU BUT I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!!!!

His Life

Early Entrepreneur

May 13, 2020
Adapted from a newspaper bio written by Alastair Baker
George was an entrepreneur starting at 5 years old when he sold hollyhock seeds outside his house for a nickel. This led in turn to taking 1 x 3-inch pieces of wood and alphabet soup and gluing people's names on them, which he sold for a quarter. When George got a cocker spaniel named Prince, George had the idea to breed dogs. To earn the money, George raised ducks to eating weight, killed and cleaned them, and raised enough cash to buy a female dog named Goldie. He raised her and finally bred her with Prince and sold the litter of pups. "I never thought of it as entrepreneurial," George said. "Creativity, more than the money, drives me. If you work hard, money is the byproduct of your hard work. We've got to go for broke. No guts, no blue chips."

In the Navy

May 14, 2020
George was proud of his military service.  He joined the Navy in February 1951 after the Korean War began.  He went to boot camp in Newport, Rhode Island and then spent time at Fort Pendleton, California.  George served in Korea from April 1952 to May 1953 as a dental med tech for the Marines.  When released from his Korean duty, he "hitchhiked" his way back to San Francisco by bumming rides on military flights to Japan, then Hawaii and finally arriving in California. He completed his commitment in February 1955 and then moved back to Wisconsin to attend college on the GI Bill.

Radio Days

May 13, 2020
Adapted from a newspaper bio written by Alastair Baker
"I was 36 years old and it was 1967," George said. "I was getting old at that age. I'd get into my car, listen to the news station, and not listen to music. I got a job in Wisconsin with an FM station, playing middle-of-the-road music at the time. No one had heard of FM then. They hired me as the sales manager. I was the only one selling. I was this straight guy, tie, sports coat, and short hair. In six months, I was wearing bells, had long hair, and getting into the music, which was now labeled underground." George's first big coup for the station was to convince a sound shop they could sell 1,000 FM converters, which could be installed in vehicles to allow the listener to get their station. The storeowner balked at the idea but went with it. The free airtime paid dividends for both the station and the sound shop with cars parked around the block for the $19.95 converters. "We got listeners and he sold 1,000 converters. It was very gratifying." Life in the radio world is very nomadic, and soon George moved on... 12 stations in a radio career spanning 25 years.

A long and Happy Road

May 11, 2021
George and met 53 years ago.  I was 21 and George wasn't.
I was a DJ in Menomonee Falls, WI and George wandered into this little FM station on Shady Lane, down the street from his house.  That friendship endured for over half a century.  I worked for him, he worked for me, we worked together.  We made money together and lost money together and through it all George was always a part of my life.
Several years ago, when I lived in SD, George came to visit.  We had breakfast together at a little joint called The Mission.  When our meal was done, probably came to $10, George asked the waitress what she would like for a tip, she responded jokingly, $20. To her amazement, George gave her $20...that was George.
Recently I visited the same restaurant for breakfast and told the waiter this story. I then gave him $20 in memory of George.
For some reason I tell that story often to waitstaff when I'm out for breakfast.  They probably think I'm a little daft, but they appreciate the tip.
The point is, George has been and continues to be a part of my life.  Big stories abound with George, but it's the little memories that creep into my life daily.
Miss you Jorge'.

Wings of the World

That was George and it was also how we met George and Bridget.  We were a charter airline, expanding our wings and George came into our lives and taught us how to barter. George exchanged our airline seat inventory (which is considered perishable inventory) into advertising (also perishable inventory).  Being generous George, it didn't stop there, he always made sure when James and I were traveling, which was all the time, that we had hotel rooms (also perishable inventory in his inventory).  One of the most influential advertising avenues he opened the door for us were the subway trains in NYC.

Although we have not been in contact for many years, we always think of George and Bridget and how lucky we are to have had them share part of our life.  We were thinking of them today and I googled' him, and found this wonderful site.

When I think of my Grandpa George, I think of him laughing -- eyes crinkled up, mustache shaking with mirth. I think of the time I spent in the fields of the house in Oregon, the dew tickling my legs as he encouraged me to explore and showed me how to drive the little riding mower. I think of the legendary schemes my Dad's told me over the years -- everything from his t-shirt venture in Mexico to the Jesus Christ Superstar shenanigans. His entrepreneurial spirit will forever be an inspiration to me. Grandpa George was an incredible, loving, and kind man that I was blessed to have as my Grandfather.
