Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall

September 9, 2010

The scene was the Amphitheater at UNC- Chapel Hill.  The date was September 2, 1979.  It was my Wedding day and no, I had not thought much about it being Hurricane season in NC also!  Needless to say, as I was about to walk down a L O N G set of steep steps (which we were already worried about my father making it thru), the sky begins to grow darker and darker and a few drops of rain begin to fall.  Uncle Frank was right there at the head of the steps standing next to Daddy and me, when he calmly said "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall."  Well of course it made me smile and I didn't worry anymore about anyone getting wet at an outdoor wedding in the middle of a Hurricane passing by!  From that day on, every time anything goes awry I think of his prophetic words, his wonderful humor, his knack of making ANY situation better instantaneously, and his love  and commitment to family and friends.  He is indeed the closest of all his siblings to his Dad, J.A., and that alone speaks volumes of the depth and breath of this wonderful man/ brother/husband/father/uncle/grand-dad and friend.  I love you Unk.  I will always cherish the wonderful memories and travels you lead us on.  I thank you for sharing so many good times with all of us!        Your fav niece (you made each of us feel like favorites - it was always a part of your gift to us),   Dede
