Obituary

George Franklin Sims was born on December 18, 1950 in Ashland Alabama to the late Mr. George Earl Sims and Mrs. Marry Lizzie (Bass) Sims.

George attended Clay County Training School in Lineville Alabama. In 1968, after high school, George went on to college at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville Alabama where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors’ of Science degree in Business Administration.  During college he joined the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in Spring 1971.

After College he met the love of his life and married Marsha (Jenkins) Sims on January 3, 1975. George and Marsha then moved to Miami, Florida, and their union was blessed with three sons, George, Charles, and Darryl.

George later became a Mason and joined the Pillars of Strength Lodge #2 on August 25, 1984. Where he also served as the Right Worshipful Grand Public Relations Officer. George was also a member of the Royal Arch Chapter #1 of Miami, FL and a member of the Knights Templar of Miami, FL. as of February 20th 1985.

During his professional career George worked as a computer programmer for various companies including the City of Miami and Eastern Airlines.  Later in his career he opened Sims Computer Service Company where he specialized in helping small businesses.  He remained in his computer services company until his health declined and he moved back to his birthplace, Ashland Alabama.

George was most known for his jovial personality, his wit, sense of humor, and his love for family. He loved to cook and eat and could be found in front of a grill or stove on any given weekend. He was a lover of music and left a large collection of albums. He was an avid reader of black history and loved to engage in vigorous debates on a wide array of topics, and most importantly prove he was correct. He will be missed.

On Wednesday June 2, 2021, George transitioned to be with the master of eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his loving Sister Gwendolyn Gail Ackles, Parents/Grandparents and a host of Aunts and Uncles.

Memories of George will forever be cherished by his family Marsha Sims; sons: George Sims (Regina), Charles Sims, Darryl Sims (Anai); brother James Earl Sims (Sharon); nephew Michael Sims; Nieces: Mary Sims (Darron Edwards), Teresa Knight; and a host of cousins and friends.

The service will be held on June 19, 2021 at 2PM at the Anniston Funeral Services.  Address: 630 Wilmer Avenue, Anniston Alabama 36201
