Deepest Condolences from KhunyingPatama Leeswadtrakul, International Olympic Council

July 1, 2021
0083/2021 Monday, 28th June 2021
Dear Tan Sri Dato Mohamad Norza Zakaria,
I wish to extend my sincere condolences for the passing of George Heng Kiang Choong.
George Heng, affectionately known as “Uncle George,” made an immense contribution to the sports in Malaysia with his strong connections with the National Team at various multi-sport games over a good number of years. His company, MESUMA, became the official attire sponsor of the OCM for 10 years both in National and International sporting events. An early pioneer of sports marketing and sponsorship in the country, Uncle George also devoted much of his time and resources to raising the standards of Malaysian tenpin bowlers in Asia and at world level. With all these remarkable achievements, I believe he will continue to be an inspiration to the younger generations and his legacy will be cherished and remembered.
I wish to convey my deepest sympathy and share in this great loss with his family, friends, OCM and those grief-stricken by his passing. My prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
Sincerely yours, KhunyingPatama Leeswadtrakul

OBITUARY TO GEORGE HENG , reposted on behalf of Uncle Wan Abdul Rahim

June 30, 2021
Hello. I don’t feel appropriate to wish a good day to all at the time of this bereavement …. But I don’t think George would disapprove of it.
Good Day to all.
Firstly, my deepest condolence to the GEORGIANS on the passing on of the bastion of the family.
George Heng Kiah Choong and I, were schoolmates, classmates from 1964 - 1965. That’s 57 years ago. Just recently on Hari Raya day, he sent a WhatsApp message wishing me a Selamat Hari Raya. A long well written greetings in Bahasa Malaysis. I replied and I inquired of his health.  The reply was just a simple, “Not so Good!”  Then he wrote further on 28 May, but deleted the message. So it didn’t reach me what he had intended to express. I suppose that was when he was in the hospital.
My name is Wan Abdul Rahim. George was not the friendly person at first sight, with his “Don’t mess with me look!”  That’s a consensus among us.  He looks scary, being  a judo exponent. But the school was in a rough neighbourhood and many of the students, in order to play safe were also portraying offensive outlook - were also scary-looking! Nevertheless he was popular among all of us of the same batch.  He was actually one who often make us laugh.
At the same  time, whether before or now, who hasn’t been scolded by George?  Even the Indian spice trader at the Port Dickson market, eagerly and patiently waited to be scolded by him. And the reward was, half of his daily “rempah” of well mixed spices, which according to George are the best rempah in Malaysia; would be purchased by him. And that’s George Heng.
How would I honestly describe him? Maybe the words of Leigh Hunt, the famous poet, will best do so. In his famous poem Hunt wrote about Abou Ben Adhem.
It goes ……
One night Abou was awakened from his slumber, to see glowing lights in his room. He saw an angel busy writing.
He crept up to it and asked:
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord, answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou.
"Nay, not so,"  Replied the angel.
Abou spoke more low,  but cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee, then,  write me as one that loves his fellow men."
The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blest,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.
That’s George, in fact. As I read the obituaries dedicated to him, George Heng is remembered for everything nice. BUT he never want the best for himself. He always insists the best always for the rest.
George. I will miss you. No more makan-makan, as you often treat me to. We will not be going to PD anymore to visit Zainal to curi-curi makan the diabetic unfriendly dishes.
But there is something really which we have failed to achieve. That is to find Choong Peck Kim, that ‘rascal’  from Brickfields, our school buddy. Maybe he will be there with you.

REPOSTING ON BEHALF OF REKHA AND RAVEE

June 28, 2021
Our deepest condolences to you and family. May you all find comfort and solace in the many beautiful memories with your father.
Precious times in Prashanti with your father flood our memory. When I was working on music for Bro. Suresh’s plays to be staged in India, I would sometimes think bro’s requests for music and sound design were near impossible. Then he’d explain his vision on what he wants on stage — and I’d think “no way”. But your father would listen patiently and magically construct whatever Bro Suresh needed. I learnt much from observing him.
I remember the countless parts being lined out at the airport. All these carried to Prashanti. Your father was relentless with the crew of devotees, most of whom came from all over the world and were terrified of him! They had to assemble the parts to form gigantic structures as per his instructions. It was spectacular to see. He was fierce to many but incredibly protective and compassionate as well.
My husband Ravee and I had our own set of issues to handle with performances or sound in Prashanti. Your father always quietly watched me. He would know I had skipped meals. He’d insist I come over and eat whatever delicious food he had made and save some for Ravee as well.
During stressful situations, with strictest of expressions, he would startle me by dropping a joke or two — what an incredible leader. He was so very proud of your performances on stage. He would try to brush off praises of his little boy, but his smile revealed his true happiness. I was always a little afraid of him as everyone said he’s so fierce. But I only remember him as the gentle and humourous Uncle who loved to talk about food, feed and serve. It was our great privilege to know such a beautiful  soul.
May he Rest In Peace at Swami’s feet.

Much love,
Rekha and Ravee

Dear Yuet Ching , William Melissa Susan and Maya
there are so many wonderful stories about George
that are so heart warming so true and so touching .
George had a big heart and a wonderful voice : he was witty , he was wise; and he was an entrepreneur in business in sports in the theatre!
I must also add : a skill with the didgeridoo!

i cannot forget that afternoon at the Metsuma Sports Shop when we spent an afternoon with the didgeridoo expert from Kuantan after I had told George and all of you that A researcher from the University of Zurich had won the iGNobel Prize for a research on didgeridoo and its value in sleep apnoea in 2017 by improving the strength of the muscles in the upper airways. And keeping the lungs well aerated!

Two weeks later George informed me that the high pressures in the eyes had abated and he underwent an uneventful ophthalmic surgery successfully without the team of CPR experts in attendance  that had been promised him

I wanted to ask George if the didgeridoo had helped
with his perioperative preparation but he had a twinkle in his eye a smile in the face and a laughter in his chuckle and I knew that I had had learned a wonderful lesson from George

that I will always remember : have a smile have a chuckle and have faith in the simple didgeridoo

Vale George

Friends from the 60s Technical Institute KL

June 26, 2021
Saying goodbye is one of the hardest thing to do. Back in the 60's we had great experience in Technical Institute, Jalan Kolam Air, Kuala Lumpur. For the first time after a long absence we had the opportunity to meet our old friends at our first 50th TIKL Reunion Lunch Gathering @ KGSAAS Shah Alam on 21st March 2015. We were indeed happy to meet our teachers - Mr Ta Kim Mit, Mr George Abraham & Dato Beh Lye Huat. TIKL Old Boys Reunion at Royal Selangor Yacht Club on 15th September 2015 and 3rd August 2017. In 2016 we had another gathering - X TIKL  Reunion Luncheon Gathering @ Sunway Putra Hotel on 4th September 2016. Our last TIKL Reunion Gathering was in Melaka. Reunion TIKL Riviera Suites Melaka on 27th July 2019 that was attended by Mr & Mrs George Heng.

Good company means good memories. We had several food trips with George. We went to Sekinchan, Seremban, KL and PJ. The sad news that we received on 24th June 2021 dashed our hopes for future outing. George we know you're in a better place where there is no pain. The goodness of your soul will always stay in our hearts RIP.

You were not just an uncle to me, You were my confidant and my source of inspiration and motivation. You will always stay alive in my memories and heart… MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE (dinner photo on 12 April 2021)
June 26, 2021
I just lost a dear brother who had taught me so much in dealing with friends and people in business.  This was during my time in William and Sons ( a sports shop owned by him in the 70's ) . His famous words to me when William and Sons was the leading trophies dealer in KL then, was that  " when I ( George ) say that I am 2nd best, NO one will say, they're the best ". Yes bro. George, until today, no one has told me that they are the best.
My most treasured memories were the time when you established the William and Sons bowling team. Together with our late Sidney Tung, Alex Ong, HP Chow and 2 others, we participated in many bowling championships. And not to forget the countless dinners, suppers and laughter's we had and shared.

Rest In Peace my brother. Even though I can't be there, you are  fondly remembered and never forgotten.

The LORD will continue to bless your family and loved ones.

Brother Moses Ong

This morning while remembering him... I was hiding my smile and tearful eyes under my mask and helmet.
I was crying for I lost someone I dearly loved, and smiling because I will always remember his goodness and the happy times we had.
I love him... and yes, I love you all..❤

SAIRAM and Pranams

Dedicated to an amazing Man who led a colourful life intertwined with many that left an indelible mark forever in our hearts.

I met Uncle George in the mid-1990s through Bangsar Centre activities.

As I started working on projects, I realized that he was someone I cannot mess with and who demanded perfection in any action especially in Service to SAI. This was my first lesson how to serve the Lord, nothing less than perfection or near perfection.

What made me realize that Uncle George was Divine and a man of action was this incident which I am going to share.

I resigned from Renong Berhad and was in between jobs late 1998. Uncle George knowing my situation, offered me a sales job at Mesuma. I was not really a sales person but just went ahead and took the offer as I was hanging lose.

Then in April 1999, Jegathesan asked Uncle George to help look for staff as he was retiring in May and wanted to start his own consultancy.

Uncle George knowing that I was useless at sales offered me to work for Jegathesan’s consultancy. He also spoke to his brother Mark Heng and secured an office space for Jegathesan’s consultancy. It was rent free.

When I started working with Jegathesan, it was the start of nasty rumours that were rife for many years but Uncle George stood in my corner and fought of “these rumour mongering people” who were saying unkind things. He used to be so upset for me. I was so grateful to him… like a mama bear protective of her cub.

When I got married to Jegathesan, again he stood in my corner again and protected me to the best of his ability. I was ever so grateful for that and remain so till this day.

He told off senior devotees, “if you had daughters and people spoke ill of them, would you allow it”. No answer came from them.

This is how my relationship from just Uncle Heng got cemented …… from Uncle to “Spiritual Godfather”. He will remain so until my passing.

A man who had SEVA / Service beating in his heart, he only wanted to serve SAI and the mission.

T
hough he seemed rough and tough, his inner beauty can never be questioned. Heart of gold and loving man for just causes. This was his reality.

His dedication cannot be matched and a great loss to all and especially the SAI fratenity. He left a void that cannot be replaced in the hearts of many.

It has been my honour and privilege to have known such a beautiful Soul.

With much Love,
Lalita
(Sivalalita)

REPOSTING ON BEHALF OF JOE CARLOS

My name is Joe Carlos and I’m so sorry to hear the passing of your husband. I met and came to know George when I was a sports reporter with the Malay Mail. George was an extremely humble, generous and kind-hearted person. His passion for bowling was so magnetic ... it affected everyone who came close to him. I consider myself fortunate to have known him and my only regret is having lost touch with him these last years. My best memories with him was learning to drink Chinese tea with him - I think it was Puer tea. My deepest condolences to you and your family. The bowling world has lost a true friend. May the good Lord guide him to eternal rest.

Once again my deepest deepest condolences.

George Heng’s passing: Sports apparel personality was all heart

George Heng Kiah Choong, A familiar face in the Malaysian sports industry. A reporter’s delight. A nightmare for some officials.

You either love him or hate him.

Heng, a long-time sufferer of diabetes, passed away last night due to heart failure. The co-founder and owner of Mesuma Sports Sdn Bhd was 72.

A down-to-earth, energetic, and happy-go-lucky man, Heng’s passing came as a shock to many. He had been admitted to a private hospital in Kota Damansara since May 1, but not many knew the extent of his health issues.

Regardless of his situation, Heng would go all out to help those in need. He always stressed that he was just a phone call away.

He established his sports apparel shop in Brickfields over three decades ago before moving to 8 Avenue in Petaling Jaya.

Founded by him and his wife Tan Yuet Ching, Mesuma was named after their three daughters – Melissa, Susan, and Maya. Their youngest child is William.

His brand was once the official kit for the national contingent at various multi-sporting events. In fact, he had, at one time, enjoyed a close relationship with the Youth and Sports Ministry, National Sports Council (NSC), the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and several national sports associations, including the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress.

However, those relationships soured as disagreements led to legal suits. The case that caught the attention of many, including intellectual property experts, was the ‘tiger stripe jersey’ saga, in which the NSC went all out to fight for its rights – only for the design to be quickly replaced.

Heng was a reporter’s delight as he was easily approachable, regardless the issue.

Drama aside, Heng, a staunch Sai Baba follower, had a big heart. Although selective in what he ate, Heng loved food, more so when he was entertaining guests. He enjoyed Chinese tea.

“He was involved in many charitable activities. He always believed in giving back to society,” said former OCM secretary-general Datuk Sieh Kok Chi.

“Heng was committed to the development of tenpin bowling at both the national and Federal Territory levels. At the Federal Territory level, he was its deputy president for some time.

“He devoted much of his time and resources to raising the standards of Malaysian tenpin bowlers at the Asian, and world levels.”

Sieh described Heng as one of the early pioneers of sports marketing and sponsorship in the country.

“Heng was one of those who introduced the installation of light boxes on street lamps for sponsors to advertise their products prominently,” said Sieh.

“His sudden and unexpected demise is a sad loss to Malaysian sports.”

His daughter, Maya – who had been heavily involved in the business – put up a strong front. But tears rolled freely when she spoke about her dad.

“He would tell us to never give up and supported us in everything we did,” said Maya.

“He was our idol. We will be strong.”

Our Interview together with Sri Sathya Sai Baba

June 24, 2021
The most memorable time with Bro George was during the Chinese New Year celebration in Prashanti in 1998.  The next day after the main event was over, a group of us was very lucky to be called into Baba's interview room.  Then Swami directed George and myself and both our sons into the smaller inner room.   Swami blessed the four of us profusely.  Whenever I think of George, I always remember the time that we had had together in the inner interview room with God.
June 24, 2021
Remembering him, as a pioneer in introducing and promoting the sport of tenpin bowling to the disabled(OKU) communities from year 2000 onward. Indeed with his leadership, we able to grew strength to strength and our country being recognised a force to be reckons by other Asian countries whenever we are competing. You will be surely be missed and THANK YOU very much for your guidance. We love you.

Papa George “Baba Gift to me”

Papa George “Baba gift to me”
My journey to Sri Satya Sai Baba was blessed with an encounter with Mr.George Heng Kiah Choong .

I woke up one day and decided to go to Puttaparti ,I was a lost soul who came in search of a guru.
My journey was an adventurous one as being young and rash I just went with my guts . Upon arriving in puttaparti I did not know where or what to do . Upon meeting a Malaysian he said “hey go meet George” he will sort you out . I was like ok like in puttaparti where do I find a guy named george . Baba as always mischievous got me sitting beside him . At first I was like who is this loud guy and his staring his eyes would zap you . I asked him do you know George ? He look at me with his big eyes and asked me what I wanted . I explained my situation. ( he would cut in often )  Funny thing is we got on well he had this Karisma in him . He started to take me for Darshan and he told me of his experience and what he does . This first visit he left before me I asked him I had letters for baba he said if you really want baba to take it then you must want it from your heart.
I tried for the last 3 days on my last day I jz left it to baba and wish it with all my heart and miraculously Baba took all the letters. ( George advice worked )

We kept in contact ,he thought me a lot . Like a strict but loving papa he scolded me when needed and he caringly  explained when needed he gave me lots of life lessons .We did quite a few CNY celebrations in Puttaparti.

He had a Larger then Life quality.
He may sound Rough or Rude but don’t discount the love behind it .

George Heng “Papa George” was not perfect but he is the right teacher baba sent me .

Sometimes Perfect is Overrated .
George was to me the Embodiment of both balance what we needed in this world .

Papa George now you are with Baba and my dad
pls enjoy eternal retirement.

Love you Always .

Ps.Now you can Hifi Baba for real

George Heng, owner of Mesuma Sports Sdn Bhd, passed away last night. He was 72.
According to his daughter, Maya Heng, George passed away peacefully at 7.39pm surrounded by his family members.
George's passing comes as a shock to me as I spoke to him several weeks ago and we had planned to meet up once the lockdown was relaxed.
George established his sports apparel shop in Brickfields over three decades ago before moving to 8 Avenue in Petaling Jaya.
Founded by George Heng and his wife Tan Yuet Ching, whom I fondly call Mrs Heng, Mesuma was named after their three daughters – Melissa, Susan and Maya. Their youngest child is William.
His brand was once the official kit for the national contingent at various multi-sporting events.
He was a down-to-earth man with a big heart who loved food and his Chinese tea.
Farewell, George. You will be missed.
Deepest condolences to Mrs Heng, Maya, William and the rest of the family.
