George Madison May, 91, went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 20, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. George was born in Foreman, Arkansas on May 23, 1923 to parents Mary Winship (Mossy) and Barker May. He served in the US Navy from Oct. 1942 to Jan. 1946. As a 2nd Class gunner’s mate on the USS Gunston Hall, he participated in multiple campaigns including those at Palue, Marshal Island, Okinawa, and the Philippines. George married Betty Daniel on Nov. 29, 1975. Betty was undeniably the love of his life and there were inseparable. He retired with his beautiful wife Betty (Lovie) to North Bed Oregon in 1988. They were faithful members of the North Bend church of God, pastored by Garry and June Robertson. George was well known for finding joy in giving out 2 dollar bills to children at church and in the community. George is survived by his wife Betty, Brother Charles, and children Diane, Jimmy, Belinda, Barb, Gary, Jimmy, Terry, and Rick; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by sister Laverne, daughter Kathy, grandson Terry, and their beloved little dog Eddy. An honor guard graveside service on Monday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Roseburg Memorial Gardens public cemetery on Garden Valley, where he will be interned with his beloved Eddy for all those wishing to attend. Please join us as we pay our respects.
