George J. Kubik

George was born on December 12, 1920 on a farm in Cleveland Township, rural Bancroft, NE to Frank and Antonine (Stejskal) Kubik. He attended Cuming County rural school district #62. On August 1, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Sila in Hartington, NE.

George served in the United States Army from July 25, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on November 27, 1945. George served as a First Scout and was an expert marksman. He was awarded an Asia-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with a Bronze Battle Star, Three overseas service bars, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Ribbon, Expert Marksman Ribbon, and Combat Infantry Badge.

Upon returning to Nebraska, George worked for a farmer near Bancroft for one year before he and Marjorie began farming on their own north of West Point for 11 years. For 27 years, they farmed northwest of Bancroft, retiring to West Point in 1983.

George was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #454 of Galva, IA.

George was proud of his Czech heritage and serving his country during World War II. He loved to play his Button Accordion, entertaining at senior centers, retirement communities and attended numerous Button Accordion Jamborees over the years. George enjoyed poppy seed kolaches, pickup trips with Marjorie and farm life.

Marjorie Kubik

Marjorie Kubik was born to Wenzel J. and Lillian A. (Petz) Sila on December 21, 1920 on the farm North West of West Point, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. She attended District #32 Cuming County School. On August 1, 1942, Marjorie was united in marriage to George J. Kubik in Hartington,NE. When George entered the Army she went with him until he went overseas during WW II and she returned to West Point and worked at various places. When George returned the couple farmed for 38 years in the Bancroft and West Point area. They retired to West Point in 1983. She entered West Point Living Center in October of this year. In 1960 Marjorie started “Hobby Haven” doing arts and crafting and attending crafting shows all over the area. Marjorie enjoyed her family and family gatherings. She and George celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary in August.
