George Perez, 75, died unexpectedly on January 26, 2021, at his residence in Bakersfield, California. He was born April 23, 1945, in Bakersfield, the son of Manuel P. Perez and Maria de Jesus Perez.
He graduated from East High School, Class of 1963. Following graduation, he served with the US Army in Germany as a combat medic. At the end of his term of service, he returned to Bakersfield and became a letter career with the United States Postal Service. In 1972, he joined the US Naval Reserves and served as a Seabee. After 35 years of service, George retired from U.S.P.S. Following retirement, he was honored for 41 years of dedicated service to the U.S. government.
George was a loyal member of the American Legion, Druids of California, and National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a strong advocate for veterans, fought for the rights of letter carriers, and committed to assisting the less fortunate.
George was diligent, strong, and resilient. A first-generation immigrant, he worked hard to contribute to the well-being of his family while growing up, and upon having children of his own, he strove to provide them with opportunities for a better life.
He loved his family and friends and took immense pleasure in hosting large gatherings surrounded by their laughter. George was an avid outdoorsman and die-hard Raider fan. He enjoyed hunting, camping, manning the Bar-B-Que, competing in chile verde cook-offs, westerns, Motown and mariachi music, and watching and attending sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Maria Perez, brothers Aurelio Perez, Benjamin Perez, Carlos Perez Sr., Aurelio P. Perez, Ruben Perez Sr., Alfred Perez, Ismael Perez, and Leopold Perez.
George is survived by the mother of his children, Jessica Perez, his daughters Rita Orlin, her husband Ryan Orlin and their three children, Kaeli, Konnor, and Kimi; Carla Palm, son-in-law, Vance Palm and their five children, Maria, Sophia, Ava, Trinidad, and Noah; Lisa Perez-Martens, her husband Renzo Martens and their two children, Azalea and Jasmina; his sisters, Eleanor Perez, Rachel Perez, Mary Blackhawk, Lupe Perez, and Lucy Gonzales, multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion for California Veteran Rehabilitation, or the Druids of California scholarship program.
Visitation will be at 6 pm Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Mission Family Mortuary 531 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93304. Rosary to begin at 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am Thursday, February 11, 2021, at St. Philip the Apostle Church 7100 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93309. A private family burial with full military honors will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mission Family Mortuary.
