His Life

Mr. George Melvin (Boo-Boo) Porter was born on April 6th, 1953 in Chambers County, AL to the late Willie Avery and Gladys P. Edwards.  He departed this life on June 20, 2017 at his residence in Lanett, AL.

George accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lanett, AL.

“BooBoo”, as he was known by many was a product of the Chambers County Public School and was a graduate of Valley High School.  After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

He was currently employed by Hi-Lex Daedong, Cusseta, AL.  George was a dedicated employee.

“BooBoo” enjoyed detailing cars and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid Alabama Fan.

George was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara McCauley.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Sherry Porter, Lanett, AL; three daughters, LaTresea Porter, Prattville, AL, Latrica James, and Jasyrian James, Lanett, AL; five sons, Earnest “Drago” Moncrief , Lanett, AL, Eric Hill, LaGrange, GA, Reginald Satterwhite, Lanett, AL, George B. Porter, Montgomery, AL, and Jamar (Tanisha) Cammon, LaFayette, AL; three sisters, Vera (Ren) Nickerson, Lanett, AL, LaDonna Austin, Jacksonville, Fl, and Vanessa Reese, Atlanta, GA; five brothers, June (Sarah) Porter, Chartina Porter, Lanett, AL, Darius Porter, Union Springs, GA, Lamar Avery, Jacksonville, FL, and Emmanuel Edwards, Tuscaloosa, AL, 21 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
