Born August 31, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA, George was the son of John J. and Margaret Kane Preisinger. He grew up in Badin, North Carolina, across the street from Stanly County CC, where he played golf with friends Earl Estridge, and Bill, Wallace and Johnny Palmer. George graduated in 1942 from the Badin School, enrolled at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, then enlisted in the V-12 Naval program in Hoboken, NJ, to be a Naval Aviator. He completed active service in 1945.
He attended NC State, playing on the golf team from 1946-1949. After graduating in ’49 with a degree in engineering, he re-enlisted in the Navy.He attended Naval Flight School in Corpus Christi, TX and Pensacola, FL and earned his wings in 1951.George flew an F6F hellcat and AF2W radar plane on the USS Sicily and USS Princeton carriers, flying most of his missions at night, which left time to play golf during the day with Commander Elmar S. Waring.
George’s love of golf continued throughout his service. He competed on the Navy golf team and played in Guam, where he won the All Navy Tournament in 1953. George returned to North Island to marry the love of his life, Helen, in June of 1953. After a final tour of duty, he concluded his service in 1955, as Lieutenant Jr. grade, and declared himself a professional golfer later that year. George and Helen began their journey together on the road driving across the country, competing in PGA Tour events and starting a family. A son, George, Jr., and a daughter Tina, were born.
After a few years on Tour, George and Helen settled in Georgia and two more children were born, son Mark and daughter Carol. George began his career as a Club professional, serving as Assistant Golf Pro at Capital City Club, Brookhaven, from 1959-1962. His first Head Golf Professional position was at Marietta Country Club, Marietta, GA, in 1963, earning Class A status in the PGA of America in 1964. During his time at MCC, George was instrumental in the design and construction of a second 9 holes. In 1975, George became Bent Tree Head Golf Professional, retiring in 1985. During his tenure as a Head Golf Professional, George enjoyed competing with members in Pro-Am tournaments at popular courses around the country, like Sea Island and Pebble Beach Resort. He developed a great reputation as a teacher, and is known for saying, “golf is a simple concept, its just not easy to play.” In 2010 George was honored by the PGA as a member of The Half-Century Club.

So very sad to hear this news . My prayers go out to George Jr. , Tina , Mark and Carol . Mr. Preisinger was one of the finest men that ever lived in our greatest generation ever . He was a true role model , and even a mentor to me in my profession. He was model golf professional and I wanted to be just like him . I remember as a kid during a JR clinic he gave me a golf ball for winning some contest or something. I was so proud of that ball and kept it forever. Something so little meant so much , and I tried to always give balls as prizes in my clinics as well . He was the best golf professional , and we were so fortunate to have had him while growing up . He was so nice to my Dad and made sure the Marietta golf team was taken care of at the club . He was just so modest and humble and was a really good player. . About 10 years ago I wrote Mr Preisinger a letter . I wanted to let him know how much he meant to me and how fortunate I was to have known him . Lo and behold , about a week later I received a long letter back from him , thanking me for thanking him . Another gift from him that I greatly cherished . Thank you again Mr Preisinger , you were a paragon !!

George was pro at BT when we moved to Jasper. He retired about same time that my son was born. When he was about 3 years old, he liked hitting golf balls on the range at BT and making contact! One afternoon, surely after a round with his friends, George was strolling to his house which was just steps from the pro shop and across the range. We were the only ones on the range. George stopped and watched my son hit a few balls, gave him a good pointer that he could understand, and went home. I could see his love for teaching and, I think, for young people who loved golf that day. I’m sure supper was probably waiting, but he stopped anyway to encourage. Enough said! ( By the way, the tip helped me as well )

George came to Marietta Country Club as Head Pro about one year after I started playing golf. He gave me my first lesson and later let me work in his pro shop the summer of 1965. The introduction to the game and the guidance he gave me led to a lifetime of enjoyment of the game of golf.
I'll miss George, but will cherish the memories I'll always have of our relationship. God bless you, George Preisinger.

Our father George touched so many lives. Not only would dad help them play better, he simplified the technical. He treated people with respect. He lifted your spirit with his smile, and made you laugh with his wink. He loved his wife and children. There was no 'top list' for that in his time, no magazine recognition in that day, no peer voting. There's only the consolation knowing that he was one of the special people in this world. Now heaven has a very special teacher, and he's with his #1 assistant, Helen. That is how he would want to be listed...

Born June 5, 1928, in Badin, North Carolina, Helen was the daughter of Walter P. and Artie Cross Pegram, of Badin, NC. The youngest of 3 children, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Worth and James Pegram of Badin.
A Beta Club member of Badin High School, Helen attended the Women’s College of UNC Greensboro, and later worked as an office secretary for Alcoa Aluminum. A former Miss Ablemarle, she was a contestant in the Miss North Carolina Pageant in 1948, winning the swimsuit competition. Helen married George Preisinger in 1953, and was a loving and devoted wife to George for 64 years until her death.
In the late 1950’s, Helen traveled across the country with George as he was playing professional golf on the PGA Tour.      Helen enjoyed music and singing, traveling on golf trips with dear friends, going to Las Vegas, and sunning at the pool. In her later years she enjoyed shopping, watching classic and western movies, and having breakfast with George at BoJangles. Throughout her life, Helen was a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. This was shared at Mom and Dad's Interment...

December 22, 2019
Dad touched so many lives through the game of golf. In his time, there were not any lists or awards that recognized just how hard he worked for our family, or how many doors he opened for people, and the many relationships he fostered. Your presence here today is a testament to Dad and Mom.

George Thomas Preisinger, Sr was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather. He was a naval officer, an athlete, a professional, an entrepreneur, a boss, a teacher, a master of ceremony, a playing partner, a competitor, an opponent, a problem solver. He is remembered as courageous, kind, humble and modest, a role model and mentor to so many people, some say he’s a paragon. But, everyone remembers George as a true gentleman. And he’s smiling that smile and winking at us right now…

Along side this gentleman for 63 years was Helen Pegram Preisinger, the sweetest, kindest, and most beautiful woman. Dad would not have been the man he became without Mom.
And Mom was a wonderful nurturing mother because of Dad. She was truly his “wing man”, his “first assistant” in life. Dad’s sister Margie Preisinger Haines is here today. In June 1953 Margie and Mom drove from Badin, North Carolina to San Diego, California so Mom and Dad could get married before dad left for his final tour of duty in the Pacific. And the rest is history…

I once asked Mom and Dad what their secret was for a loving and lasting marriage, and without hesitation they said to me, “being considerate of each other”.No one has ever had to consider how much Mom and Dad loved each other, it’s always been measured just as they sang to each other, and to us kids, “I love you a bushel and a peck… and a hug around the neck… a barrel and a heap and I’m talking in my sleep about you”. Sleep well, Mom and Dad. We love you.

I think my favorite thing about George was his quiet spirit. He was slow to speak, but the words he spoke were measure carefully and always held such value to them. Every time I saw him, George would nod his head, wave his hand, and give me a big smile. He was always a gentleman and he never complained. And even in the midst of his pain, he never failed to show joy through his eyes. He was a very special person and I’ll never forget the smile he always wore. May he Rest In Peace amongst the angels and in Christ’s arms.

Dad was a faithful man in many ways...

December 3, 2019
Mom grew up a Methodist, and dad was Catholic. At St Josephs School in Marietta, students attended mass during the school week. Since Dad worked on Sundays at the club, he would take us to Saturday evening mass, and would tithe to the church. Many times, as the basket would pass through the pews, we would fight to see who could get the envelope and put it in the basket. Dad was a faithful man to mom, his family, and the Lord.
This memory came to mind after my friend Maria De Leon sent the following to me:
Did you know December 1st is the first day of the Christian Calendar? The beginning of Advent season ..  for believers... the first day which kicks off Advent, the preparations for the coming of the Prince of Kings to be born. ❤️❤️❤️
