Helen Preisinger, 1928 - 2017

          Helen P. Preisinger, 88, of Bent Tree, in Jasper, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, April 7, 2017, at her home
     Born June 5, 1928, in Badin, North Carolina, Helen was the daughter of Walter P. and Artie Cross Pegram, of Badin, NC. The youngest of 3 children, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Worth and James Pegram of Badin.
     A Beta Club member of Badin High School, Helen attended the Women’s College of UNC Greensboro, and later worked as an office secretary for Alcoa Aluminum. A former Miss Ablemarle, she was a contestant in the Miss North Carolina Pageant in 1948, winning the swimsuit competition. Helen married George Preisinger in 1953, and was a loving and devoted wife to George for 64 years until her death.
     In the late 1950’s, Helen traveled across the country with George as he was playing professional golf on the PGA Tour. She kept daily accounting of their travels, logging each purchase they made and every penny they spent. After giving birth to George, Jr. and Tina between golf tournaments, they moved to Chamblee, Georgia, when George became Assistant Golf Pro at Capital City Club. Within the next two years she gave birth to Mark and Carol.
     Residing in Marietta, Georgia, from 1963 to 1975, Helen nurtured her 4 young children and played golf with family and friends at Marietta Country Club, where George was Head Golf Professional. In the summer of 1975, the family moved to Bent Tree Country Club, Jasper, Georgia, where she and George continued to raise their 4 teenagers until the kids left the nest. She became a Golf Shop Assistant to her husband George, Bent Tree Head Pro, and they ran the golf shop operation together until retirement in 1985.
     Helen enjoyed music and singing, traveling on golf trips with dear friends, going to Las Vegas, and sunning at the pool. In her later years she enjoyed shopping, watching classic and western movies, and having breakfast with George at BoJangles. Throughout her life, Helen was a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She always put her husband and family first, was kind to and considerate of others, and never complained.
     Helen is survived by her husband, George Thomas Preisinger, 91, of Bent Tree; son George, Jr. and wife Ro Preisinger of Kennesaw; son Mark Preisinger of Atlanta; daughter Tina and husband Steve Vaughters of Oakman; daughter Carol Preisinger and husband Bob Nitkewicz of Charleston, SC.; sister-in-law Margie Preisinger Haines of Greensboro, NC; son-in-law Jerry Thomas of Jasper; daughter-in-law Ashley Preisinger of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.
     Interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetary, Canton, Ga. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date on Georgepreisinger.forevermissed.com.
