Brothers

July 31, 2016

George was my brother-in-law but to me he was like the brother I never had as boy growing up. We shared so many wonderful times together alone as buddies and with our combined families. Here as an example in this photo, the two of us coincidently wearing the same shirt that day, shirts we had both bought previously on one of our shopping sprees together. That day the photo was taken, happened to be the day that we celebrated Karla and George's first born son, Quinn's christening, held at Delores and Nate's church (George's aunt & uncle) in Philadelphia.

George shared with me his wisdom, his straight talks (when I needed them), and his humor, like a brother would. On this first anniversary of George's passing and for always, I'll never forget him for all that he has meant to me.

To: Karla, Quinn, and Devin, we will always be family and even though George isn't here with us physically, we will always be with him spiritually through the memories of him.

Love always, Uncle Barrie

George was truly a class act. Last time we caught up was at my wedding and his being there made it all the more significant. Many great adventures were had at OU and beyond. He was always very proud of his sons and found a wonderful wife...where you ask?...Athens, Ohio of course! See you on the other side some day, my friend.  -- Chris Konik

It was a grace for others and myself who shared an office suite with George at the Whitman School of Management.  It was evident that he earned his way up through years of hard, honest work, dedication, and the prioritization of people and fostering relationships over practical tasks.  We would see him come directly from the airport and put in a full day’s work after travelling all night on business, never with one complaint or being anything less than amiable and completely professional.  Although he was not a man of many words, his words and actions expressed his deep love and commitment to his family, their shared values, and his appreciation and childlike joy in the simple things of life.  He brightened everyone’s day and made people of every status comfortable with his peaceful demeanor, sincerity, jokes, instant smiles, and memorable laughter.  George, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your friendliness and shining example of how one person can have such a positive influence on loved ones, acquaintances, and the world.  It is comforting to imagine that your soul, immersed in eternal light and joy, will continue to have a positive impact, interceding for us as we continue to pray for Karla, Quinn, Devin, your extended family, colleagues, and friends during this very difficult time.

Neighbors

August 5, 2015

The best part of living on Van Wie West was living next door to the Reids. We shared a backyard and we quickly became "back door" neighbors. On the weekends George was always ready to race the kids around the backyard in a wagon, play tag, offer me "advice" on staining my deck, or let me in for a glass of wine after a long day. He was someone my children could look up to. He saw the good in everyone and encouraged them to bring out their best. I feel honored to have lived next door to him and blessed to have been inspired by him. George, Karla, Quinn, and Devin, you will always be part of our family.

George was a great colleague and friend, and Whitman alumni, faculty, and staff adored him.  He left us far too soon and will be greatly missed.
I recall our coffee breaks at Starbucks on the SU campus where on occassion we discussed Development matters but always George spoke fondly about the most important people in his life: Karla, Quinn, and Devin.  Rest in peace, G-Money
